It seems that Ireland has not lost its touch as the place of a thousand welcomes with its capital city, Dublin, earning the title of second friendliest city in the entire world!

Voted for by readers of top international travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler, Dublin was lauded “the ‘new’ Barcelona, without the sunstroke” where "the people make the place".

In fact, one reader commented that "I've never been somewhere with friendlier drinkers," all thanks to our "pubs and restaurants filled with locals and tourists alike, coming together to celebrate life."

Dubliners should all give themselves a pat on the back for the excellent job they’re doing representing the Irish people and our great hospitality. Rising up from fifth friendliest city in 2014, the people are all the voters can talk about saying, "The Irish are so much fun," and "there's always a smiling face to talk to."

The capital was pipped to the post by Sydney, Australia, but as we keeping smiling through the rain instead of endless sunny skies, we think that should earn us some extra points.

We were joined on the list by the Scots in Edinburgh in sixth place also praised for their smiles. There were "wonderful pubs filled with laughter," and "local musicians playing and everyone smiling and singing along" the magazine readers said.

Not that we didn’t already know that Dublin is a great place. The facebook page Humans of Dublin has highlighted the warmth, generosity and vitality of the capital city’s people, especially the remarkable story of Jamie Harrington who saved a stranger’s life simply by asking him if he was ok. You can see the best bits of Humans of Dublin as featured by IrishCentral here.
