My Gaffney ancestry in America originated in the rural area of adjacent County Sligo, just off Lough Key, near to where Boyle in Roscommon is the largest local town. Baptismal records for my great grandfather James Gaffney are still held at Boyle. He came to America in 1846 and exactly 160 years later, my son and I visited this beautiful part of Ireland.
