Maybe a lounge where we could sip our Jameson from a crystal glass--?? Very nice indeed.
yeah, good luck to the boys, it's good to see these craftmen honed over years taken back off the trash heap
This is good, we are a small country, luxury goods such as Waterford Crystal suit us. High value, rather than cheap labor ;0 But where oh where was our government in this stuff... ah yes in the Galway tent, selling our land to their mates..after all of this tiger, we don't even have a broadband network to start from scratch.
It still hurts to think of all the jobs that were lost and now outsourced to eastern Europe. But, at least the Waterford center will be a reminder of the great Irish craftsmen and their iconic work. May they all get re-employed soon!
With the queen coming next year to 'ol erin there'll be a need for queen standards embossed with harp. Ref URL angelfire.com/ ny/border/ symbols.html
Judy, unfortunately this factory will be making only the expensive high end pieces such as trophies. Those of us with Waterford stemware patterns will no longer have replacement pieces made in Ireland. That part of the company is being outsourced to countries in Central Europe. It is very sad. I have seen the pieces and they are good but not the superb quality we have come to expect from Waterford.
I can't wait to see it in just under 3 weeks!
What a wonderful thing to happen. I toured the first one back in 2000 (had the picture taken etc) and thoroughly enjoyed that. I'm so glad they are back. Maybe, just maybe I can one day tour this one too. Good Luck to all of them!!
Such good news to hear out of Ireland! Such a respected & cherished Icon. Will they continue with the Lismore pattern? Love it.
question. will they make the same paterns as before or those of us that have stem ware are out of luck to replace broken pieces. Judy
Wonderful to know that the future of this iconic Irish company now seems a good deal more certain in these economically difficult times. Had it closed, the loss to Irish craftmanship would have been major. All credit to Waterford City Council.I dare say they were critised by some for providing a 20 million euro investment, but it was the right decision for Waterford and Ireland.
I hope the new Waterford makes it. Their crystal is really lovely.
