It's altogether brilliant, as my Nana used to say! If there are students coming to the Sacramento, CA area, I have an extra bedroom. My status is; single, retired teacher, three adult children, cat (Steve), neat, love to cook, barbecue, healthy food an added bonus (Sacramento has a plethora of Farmer's Markets all week long), state capital, two hours on either side of Lake Tahoe (Sierra Nevada Mtns.) and San Francisco. I'd love to entertaina student (female, but males are ok, too). If my apartment (swimming pool, hot tub, tennis courts, horseshoe pit) meets your need, let me know!

When in doubt, try to find a rental agency with a decent record for affordable new york city apartments. Try asking friends who've already been (even those J2 kids) before making any decisions about housing.

You should also consider getting out of NYC, and visit other parts of the USA, which is big and diverse! Carry a write-up about your visa status from an Irish consulate or U.S.State Dept., most employers are wary of hiring an "illegal." Internet cafes are not as common as they are on your side of the Atlantic, look for them around colleges, e.g. in Chicago take the Red Line to the DePaul University or Loyola Univ areas, or up to Evanston for Northwestern Univ. or look to immigrant neighborhoods (the signage maybe in Urdu, but you will be able to connect with home). Welcome and enjoy your summer!

And remember when in midtown Manhattan when there is a grid plan, that streets run east (East River) to west (Hudson River) and that avenues run north-south.
