Whether you’re visiting friends or family or simply exploring your Irish roots, there are many reasons why you wish to visit Ireland.

Here at IrishCentral.com we put our thinking caps on and came up with the ten top reasons to visit our inspiring island.

1.Nature

Green is the islands emblematic color. Ireland is a place where you can experience 100 shades of green. The legacy of an ice age has shaped the richly textured natural world which offers almost 9,000 miles of coastline. From vast mountains to pebbly beaches, rural bog lands to inland waterways, tourists can sample a feast of natural attractions. The diverse flora and fauna that Ireland has on offer makes it the perfect destination for any nature lover.

From the Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim to the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, Ireland is the perfect backdrop for any adventurer.

2. Rich History

With a rich history which dates back to prehistoric times, Ireland continues to be a top destination for ardent historians. Museums, magnificent houses and historical sites illustrate Ireland’s past in a powerful fashion. Historical arts centers dotted throughout the country offer a great insight into our heritage.

Newgrange located in County Meath dates back to before the Great Pyramids! Ireland also boasts hundreds of castles many of which have been restored and are open to the public all year around.

3.Irish food and drink

Guinness; Irish whiskey; Irish coffee; rashers; Irish stews and potato cakes are just a few of traditional food and beverages that are on offer. To get a real taste of Ireland it is necessary to chow down and experiment! Our simplistic approach to cooking results in home cooked, traditional meals which will satisfy even the fussiest eater.

Enjoying a pint of Guinness with a full Irish breakfast is a must for any tourist. With thousands of restaurants and pubs it is easy to find the perfect pint.

4. Clean fresh air

Despite not enjoying a particularly warm climate, Ireland’s damp temperatures are conducive to some of the cleanest air in Europe. Getting off the beaten track and exploring rural Ireland you cannot help but noticing the fine air quality. There are countless scenic drives and walking routes to explore where you will be exposed to the

 5. Culture, music and dance

Irish traditional music has evolved over the centuries to become one of the most prominent musical genres in our island. In almost every city you are bound to find a traditional Irish music session any night of the week. The trad session comprises of a group of amateur musicians gathering usually in a pub to play such instruments as banjo’s, bodhrans, tin whistles and guitars.

Hi... I love it! I will be there soon... Thanks... a soft kiss as a flute's note in the air between the sky and the earth... Deborah Reis A Flauta da Lua...
Ireland is the best place on earth. 10/10 for everything except the food. Not saying it's not good, because it is, but I know so many people who had to live on BK or McD because with families, they couldn't afford a decent meal in the restaurants! In the UK you get brilliant pub meals for half the price they are in Ireland.
11.Be sure to bring 50 grand spending money with you,the sight seeing and the friendly Irish hospitality are free, but we need the money because we are broke after partying for 10 years.

I agree with the writer--Ireland is a beautiful country with warm and friendly people. Too bad their economy is in the toilet

GOLF should be a separate category all by itself. I spent two weeks there with my son and we played 18 holes each day. Most of the courses were links courses in Kerry, Clare, Galway, Sligo & Donegal. We played three inland course in Kerry, Tipperay and Roscommon. No matter where you go, I'm sure you will have an exceptional experience.
I think you should have added how easy it is to get there - within 5 minutes from Shannon International Airport, you are travelling through picturesque green countryside and still only a short trip from the spectacular beauty of the west coast of Clare and famous links golf courses such as Lahinch and Doonbeg
It had just been reported that Irelands GNI (Gross national Income) was down from an average high of €37,200 to a 2001 level of €31,300 for those fortunate enough to have a job, when paddy was in the pub meeting up with his old pal jerzy who was back over from Poland visiting to see his Irish girlfriend and have a few pints of the black stuff, It was a Friday evening and such was jerzys rush for the 5 o clock Ryanair flight out of Warsaw that he had not even had time to open up his paypacket which he was now doing to the slagging comments of paddy "Will there be enough in there to pay for a round" at which point jerzy produced a slip which said on the bottom line €788.65 whats your take home quipped jerzy at which paddy produced a slip which said 455.34, You see paddy things are looking up in Poland I now earn more Euro than you for the same job..... Ahh now hold on a minute said paddy and after studying the payslips for a few minutes he said ah ha but look jerzy says he I got more hours than you....
