I personally know a North Cork native who served in the U.S Army in the '50s and was married on the high altar of St. Patrick's Cathedral in the '60s. One Sat. evening in the mid-80s while attending mass at the cathedral, I was asked to be an usher and took the collection in one section of pews.
We should remember that in Oct. of '51 the casket bearing the remains of Kerry native Cpl. Ptk Sheahan, A Korean War K.I.A. and winner of a Bronze Star and a Silver Star, were placed in front of the high altar of St. Patrick's as a mass was said for him and 7 other Irish K.I.A. who were on their way to Ireland for burial. In recent years high ranking R.. clergy support full amnesty for those who ILLEGALLY entered the U.S. thru its Souther border. But we don't know of any clergyman linked to the cathedral who is campaigning to grant visas to deserving w0ould-be Irish immigrants to LEGALLY come to this country, Why the double standard?
