Northern Ireland is perfect for a short break, and here are ten things to do while you are enjoying your stay there.

The Northern Ireland Tourist Board has put together a list of exciting things to do in Northern Ireland between May 24 and June 6. For more details on these and other events visit www.discovernorthernireland.com/events, Callsave 1850 230 230.

• Africa Day Festival, various venues, Derry, May 25: The Africa Day Festival consists of an exhibition of African culture and crafts, African storyteller, African DJs playing music from the continent, and delicious African food.

• Féile Laughs at the Bank Comedy Festival, Bank Square, Belfast, May 27 to 30: The festival runs over three days and three nights, culminating with top notch headline acts each night in the Féile marquee in Bank Square. Throughout the day the sidekicks’ line up will bring fun and frolics to the streets.

• Blues on the Bay Festival, Newry and Warrenpoint, May 27 to 31: A fantastic five day blues music festival extravaganza, featuring world class international jazz and blues performers. Events include music workshops, jazz picnic in the park, and some 80 free fantastic blues gigs in restaurants and bars throughout Warrenpoint.

• Bike-2-Belfast, Dublin to Belfast, May 29: The Rotary Club of Dublin Central has organized an open cycle challenge from Dublin to Belfast. Visit www.bike2belfast.com for registration and route information.

• Sperrintrek 2010: Spring Walking Festival, Cookstown Tourist Information Centre, May 29 to 30. Sperrintrek is a series of three walking weekends in the Sperrin Mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The spring walking festival takes place this May with two challenging walks.

• Turning Turtle at Exploris, Portaferry, Co Down, May 29 to 31: Celebrate World Turtle Day, discover how these ancient mariners have survived since prehistoric times, and the distances they must travel in order to do so.

• May Bank Holiday Extravaganza, Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh, May 29 to 31: Visitors can enjoy thrills in a variety of land and water activities; one hour, two hour, or even taster sessions in sailing, kayaking, canoeing, banana boating, skiing, archery, combat corps, climbing, and pedal go-karting.

• Have a go at archery at Carrickfergus Castle, Co Antrim, May 30: Visitors will have the opportunity to have a go at archery in this magnificent medieval castle. Archery was an essential part of medieval warfare and a skilled archer could change the outcome of a battle in a matter of minutes.
