Ireland now cheapest destination in western Europe for hotels

Bookmark and Share

Now that you've got that cheap flight to Ireland, there's more good news as hotel prices in Ireland have dropped dramatically.

The average price of a hotel room in Ireland has dropped to $108 making Irish hotel rooms the cheapest in western Europe.

The only countries less expensive than Ireland are all in Eastern Europe; the Czech Republic ($92) Hungary and Poland (both $95).

The average price of a hotel room in Ireland has dropped 21 percent from the previous year when it was $137.

The drop in prices is the steepest seen in any country in western Europe.

Switzerland was Europe’s most expensive country with an average hotel room price of €135 in 2009.

The figures come from the hotels.com Web site and they also broke the numbers down by county.

In Dublin, prices fell from $133 to $103 and prices were also down steeply in Cork and Limerick.

Killarney is now the most expensive place to stay in Ireland - knocking Galway off its perch although hotels.com did not provide prices.

Waterford is the cheapest place to stay down from $88 to $83.

Cost of flights does vary by dates, but you can plan a trip "economically" by being flexible. Hotel stays in the cities and cost of eating are high, but again, planning and flexiblility are necessary. Remember you are there for the ambiance, history and contact w/people, so be budget-minded, forego gourmetmeals and upscale accomadations. Stay at B B's and support local businesses
The flights to Ireland are not cheap, at least not yet. Its close to 800.00 (inc. taxes) or more when I plan to go, the end of Oct. the first week in Nov. I'm hoping they come down before then as I love Ireland and its people.
