George, I'm sorry, but the idea that "Ireland on its own wouldn't merit a weekend" may be one of the most absurd things I've ever seen in print. You could simply get in your car and travel around the west of Ireland with no particular destination in mind for a month and find something fascinating and delightful every single day.

I know three of these destinations very well, Ireland, Paris, and Hawaii. Fraid I've never been to Egypt. But I am astonished that anyone would put Ireland in the top tier. When you think of the beauty of Hawaii, and its absolutely delicious climate, as well as the profound cultural heritage of Paris, it's absurd to put Ireland in the same league. I always recommend American friends to combine Ireland with a trip to other destinations in Europe--Ireland on its own wouldn't merit more than a weekend. And Dublin, which used to be a fine city, has turned into a dump.

LOL, the folks who actually travel chose Ireland #1 while the editors and writers did not even place it on their top 10 list- seems odd they'd be so disconnected with those who rely on their guides.
