I’m a Dubliner and I know these lovely parks well but may I add a few more sanctuary parks? The Botanical Gardens, Fairview Park, Memorial Park, St. Anne’s Park, Mountjoy Square Park, Fitzwilliam Square Park, Bushy Park and the best of all, the biggest of all (of Europe even): the Phoenix Park – so small you could leisurely drive around it in a half-hour, so big you could spend days wandering there. It’s got dozens of parks within it – The Zoological Gardens (said to house the most beautiful Zoo in Europe), the Flower Gardens, the 15-acres (Gaelic games of football and hurling), the Cricket Grounds, the Polo Grounds (gallop horsey, go!), the Bandstand Hollow, the Deer Park (yes, there’s real deer to see) to mention a few. All of these parks offering the same respite as the five listed above to all of us Dubs. All are within easy reach of the City Centre. Is this a long post? Thank your lucky stars that I haven’t mentioned us Dubliners’ loads of favourite walking seaside strands! Or our hill-walking favourites!
