CONGRATS to the Hanafin Cooley Branch of CCE in Boston which mounted a marvelous night this past Sunday in Norwood at Concannon's Village to honor two local Galwegian leaders in Larry Reynolds and Mike O'Connor.

A packed house of over 300 turned out to recognize the work of musician Reynolds, the Comhaltas stalwart in Beantown and O'Connor, the president of the Irish Cultural Center of New England, based in Canton, Massachusetts, who were presented with personal paintings by the Galway artist Vincent Crotty.

  6. Weather Doesn't Dampen Boston Fest
    March 10, 09

MOTHER Nature has been very cruel to the Gulf and Caribbean areas this hurricane season, and so very devastating in the short and long term for the people who live there.

Complaining about the damp weather that beset the ICONS Festival in Canton, Massachusetts this past weekend would pale in comparison, even though the itinerant event that has moved from June to August to September this year in an attempt to seek the perfect conditions that would allow the weekend event to properly exploit its many assets.

No doubt, the heavy rain on Friday night and its softer showers on Sunday sandwiched Saturday's day of comfortable reprieve dampened the attendance - and the grounds - for the ambitious festival and the bottom line.

  8. Lukas Oldie But Goodie
    March 09, 09

"You don't want to write about that," wrote Luka Bloom in an e-mail when I asked him for an interview on "Tribe," the album he released a few years ago that has finally made its debut online over here.

"I'm already onto other things. I'm just mixing a new album in New York, so let's save up the ink for that!"

Fair enough, but when you are as talented as Luka Bloom and incapable of recording a dud album, a music critic will never have a shortage of ink in which to sing your praises.
