Rev Canon William Crean, a parish priest in Cahersiveen, has been named as a new bishop for the scandal plagued diocese of Cloyne, County Cork, where the previous bishop for years ignored his church's own rules requiring priests suspected of sex abuse to be reported to police.

The Pope’s right hand man has blamed the ‘devil and the media’ for the latest Vatican documents scandal.

The Irish Prime Minister has called on Cardinal Sean Brady to “reflect” on the BBC documentary on Fr Brendan Smyth, which claims that Brady was aware of the sexual abuse suffered by victims.

Father Aidan Troy says he is devastated by the fact that clerical sex abuse may have led to people committing suicide. Speaking at a suicide prevention conference in Dublin he said he finds it “difficult” to put on his white collar every morning.

The Taoiseach of Ireland (Prime Minister) Enda Kenny stands by the comments he made on the Vatican, in the Dail (Irish Parliament) following the publication of the Cloyne Report, into the coverup of clerical sexual abuse carried out by the Irish Catholic Church.
