Fresh form a successful awards season, including Best Movie Oscar for “Argo, Boston’s golden boy Ben Affleck will return to his roots to working a ‘Whitey’ Bulger project alongside his old friend Matt Damon.

The Irish Film & Television Network have revealed that a €5 million “fast moving, Irish gangster/cage fighting film” called ‘Ringsend’ is due for production in Ireland this year. The story will revolve around a hardened drug dealer from Amsterdam who uses a cage fighting tournament to cover up a multi-million pound drug deal with Irish and UK criminals.

Deadline reported that Oscar nominated actor Johnny Depp will play Boston Irish gangster Whitey Bulger in the upcoming film “Black Mass: The True Story of the Unholy Alliance between the FBI and the Irish Mob.” Production will begin in May and a location has not yet been announced.

The actor's most successful role to date was portraying Henry in Martin Scorsese's 1990 film based on his life, and said he hopes the former mobster - who died of an undisclosed illness, aged 69 - has finally found peace.

Irish police have arrested six people in connection with a murder plot involving an Irish police officer, a witness to one of the gang’s crimes, and, crime journalist with the Sunday World, Mick McCaffrey.  Police say the Irish crime gang had placed a bounty of $27,000 (€20,000) on the Dublin journalist’s head.

A new comedy pilot involving a character based on Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger is to be produced. Twentieth Century Fox has signed a deal with writer-producer Peter Mehlman for a new comedy pilot about a young couple who get a new neighbor, none other than Whitey Bulger.

Whitey Bulger, one of Boston’s most notorious criminals was the inspiration for a song entitled “Morning Light (A Ballad of James ‘Whitey’ Bulger).”
