'Mad for the music' - from sessions in the Catskills to Paul Brady in Manhattan (IrishCentral)

The Irish often label folks who spend an inordinate amount of time playing or following the music as “being mad for the music” or “pure mad” when it comes to attending events built around it, especially in traditional musicIf my own experience is any evidence I suppose it is certainly true, and seemingly if this past weekend was an indicator (as well as the odometer on my car) there was a lot of madness in the air and on the horizonOn Friday night up in Fairfield, Connecticut, the Gaelic American Club hosted touring musicians Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh and Breandan Begley from Ireland for a concert in their lovely function roomThey are on a U READ MORE

Paul Brady may be greatest handballer of all time (IrishCentral)

By: DANIEL O'CARROLL
Speculation mounts in handballing circles that Irishman Paul Brady may just be the greatest handballer of all time.

The Irishman won his sixth successive US Nationals Open Singles title in Texas last weekend. The event is considered in handballing to be the toughest event in the world, harder than even the world champioships, which Brady has also held since 2003.

This year’s tournament was also the second such one in which the Mullahoran man has left opponents unable to notch a double digit score against him. Many other records have tumbled before the handballing sensation.

And Brady has now moved to joint third in the nationals roll of honour behind eight-time winner David Chapman, whom he beat on the latter's 36th birthday last Saturday, and the Mexican Naty Alvarado Sr. Alvarado, known as El Gato ('The Cat'), who won elven titles in the 1980s and early 1990s.

He is aiming to beat the record of most Irish senior championship titles next year and already holds the most world titles.
