Gary Thornton would still be considered a novice to marathons having run  in only 3 competitive races thus far, but the Galway teacher showed his natural strength in the sport with a first place finish at the North Pole Marathon. 

The daughter of a record breaking Irish marathon runner has become the youngest person at the North Pole.

The Irish North Pole Team 2010 has abandoned its expedition to the North Pole after one of the team fell victim to frostbite.
