With just under 100 days of the presidential campaign left to go, Barack Obama is set to receive a little help from his friends in Moneygall, County Offaly as the Irish branch of Democrats Abroad prepare to throw a fundraising event on the President’s birthday, 4th August.
 
Larry Donnelly, who acts as legal counsel for the Irish branch of Democrats Abroad, said, “We were always looking to go there. President Obama’s visit to Moneygall captured everyone’s attention. Ollie Hayes has been very good to us too.”

The Irish ancestral home of President Barack Obama has been opened to the public in Offaly, a year after thousands of people around Ireland marked the President’s historic visit.

It's just been six weeks since President Barack Obama and his wife visited his ancestral home in the sleepy hamlet of Moneygall in County Offaly, but the memory still burns bright for the locals.

The United States First Lady, Michelle Obama, spoke of her "surprise" at the connection she felt to the Offaly town of Moneygall during her visit in May. Speaking at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, she admitted that as well as having a kinship with Africa she also feels a connection with Ireland.

Just two weeks after  US President Barack Obama visited, the small village of Moneygall, County Offaly, has announced plans to release a commemorative book on Independence Day, July 4th.

The little town of Moneygall in Offaly is flooded with tourists since President Obama’s visit there last week.

It now appears that the White House decision to fly by helicopter despite high winds form Dublin to Moneygall last week was one fraught with danger.

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has slammed President Obama’s trip to Ireland saying  Americans should start calling him ‘Paddy’ and saying it was a ruse to win the Irish American vote.

A five week old baby is to named in honor of Barack Obama – days after the US President rescued his soother on the main street in Moneygall.

Despite Obama’s departure from his ancestral home of Moneygall, his visit is continuing to have an  effect on the Offaly village.

Last Thursday Tony Donovan boarded a plane bound for Ireland.  Almost two decades after emigrating from Co. Offaly, he was off to meet President Barack Obama in Donovan’s hometown of Moneygall.
