Sónta Films have started pre production on a new four-part series 'GAA USA', which will offer an insight into Irish American history through the untold story of the GAA in the U.S.

Three exciting new Irish films had the Tribeca Film Festival crowds buzzing. 'What Richard Did' is an intense fictional telling of an all too real story about a deadly assault in Dublin. Also screened was Irish director Neil Jordan’s 'Byzantium,' with Saoirse Ronan as a 200-year-old teenage vampire. 'Run and Jump,' one of the most distinctive new Irish films about love and marriage seen in years, also made a big impression. Cahir O'Doherty reviews the three films and talks to the award winning Irish director Lenny Abrahamson. 

Irish film production company Fantastic Films, headed up by Brendan McCarthy and John McDonnell are celebrating. 'The Last Day of Mars' directed by Oscar nominated Ruairi Robinson, being announced as one of the films accepted into this year’s highly prestigious ‘Directors’ Fortnight’ at next months Cannes Film Festival.

Colin Farrell and Oscar-nominated actress Jessica Chastain are set to film ‘Miss Julie,’ a film adapted from a once banned story of a romantic relationship between an Anglo-Irish aristocrat’s daughter and her father’s valet.  Farrell is playing the valet in the film shooting in Co Fermanagh throughout April.  ‘Miss Julie’ has a budget of 4.5 million euros and will shoot in Castle Coole. 

A new online archive spans 100 years of Irish history, as told by an Irish grandmother from each of the 32 counties.

Four Irish films will have the honor of being screened at New York City’s upcoming Tribeca Film Festival. ‘What Richard Did,’ ‘Run and Jump,’ ‘Byzantium’ and ‘Dark Touch’ are all billed to be shown.

On March 6 New York’s premier Irish film and music event, the Craic Fest, is back and firing on all cylinders, with Cillian Murphy headlining the films and Julie Feeney headlining the music. The Irish Film & Television Network have revealed that a €5 million “fast moving, Irish gangster/cage fighting film” called ‘Ringsend’ is due for production in Ireland this year. The story will revolve around a hardened drug dealer from Amsterdam who uses a cage fighting tournament to cover up a multi-million pound drug deal with Irish and UK criminals.
