Irish NGO Haven U.S. is looking for 40 volunteers to help them build sustainable communities on the island of Ile a Vache in Haiti May 2013.

The 'Django Unchained' actor was one of the many A-list stars at the benefit in Los Angeles and when the opportunity came up to spend a day with the former US president, he jumped at the chance.

Haven, a Irish non-governmental, non-political, non religious organization working to build sustainable communities through the provision of housing, and emergency relief and by implementing community development programs in Haiti, is hosting an informational meeting at Rory Dolan’s, 890 McLean Avenue in Yonkers, on Tuesday, September 18 at 6:30 p.m.

“Haven US is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization which set up in the United States in 2011, after three years in operation in Ireland and Haiti, with the aim of assisting with the expansion of its program of activities and services in Haiti. Haven works solely in Haiti and aims to improve the lives of half a million vulnerable people by providing adequate shelter, water and sanitation solutions. Haven, in conjunction with the government of Haiti also aims to create jobs and training opportunities in the local communities.”

The Oscar-winning actor - who has been assisting in the country's relief efforts since it was struck by a devastating earthquake two years ago - will be awarded the 2012 Peace Summit Award at a ceremony in Chicago next month after being recognised for his work "to rebuild and aid the victims of the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, as well as his ongoing advocacy for peace and human rights protection worldwide".

In early May, Irish non-profit the Haven Partnership will send a group of volunteers to Haiti for its latest “Build It Week” initiative, one of many seven-day programs aimed at rebuilding homes throughout the earthquake-ravaged regions of the country.
