The Irish political party Sinn Fein has admitted they asked the US broadcaster CNN to refer to Gerry Adams by his “proper title” rather than “former IRA paramilitary commander” following a recent report.

Roger Ailes, president of FOX News, made an apparent dig at CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien’s name following a speaking engagement with University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Thursday.

Reuters reports on the comment where Ailes offhandedly drew the connection between O’Brien’s first name and a correctional facility in California. Ailes was on campus for part of the University’s Roy H. Park Distinguished Lecture Series.

Having announced his plan to donate $1 million dollars of his own money to a so-called Super Political Action Committee (PAC) in support of President Obama, comedian and pundit Bill Maher appeared on the Piers Morgan show this week to discuss issues as diverse as cutting the check to Hollywood to the Constitution.

Although Piers Morgan has denied knowing anything about the recent phone hacking scandals, a former Daily Mirror Journalist now claims that the hacking happened while Morgan was the editor of the paper.
