This fight is an official IBF Heavyweight Voluntary Eliminator fight for the #2 position between #9, Tyson Fury and #12, Steve Cunningham. The winner will become #2 and must meet #1 or the leading available contender to establish the mandatory challenger for Heavyweight King Wladimir Klitschko. The fight will be broadcast at 4PM ET on NBC as a special 2 hour afternoon presentation of NBC Sports Fight Night.

Heavyweights Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KOs) and Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KOs) convened at Jack Demsey’s in midtown Manhattan last Thursday for a press conference to promote their fight at the Theater in Madison Square Garden on April 20.

Patrick Hyland (27-1, 12KOs) will fight Eric Hunter (17-2, 9KOs) for the USBA featherweight title in a contest scheduled for 10 rounds in early May. As the Irish Voice went to press the venue still has to be confirmed, but it looks like the fight will take place on May 10 in upstate New York.

It looks like middleweight Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KOs) is about to fight one of the most avoided boxers in the world in the form of WBA champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KOs).  As the Irish Voice went to press on Tuesday nothing official had been announced, but it is likely that the pair will fight on June 29 on the East Coast.

Heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KOs) survived a second round knockdown to defeat Steve Cunningham (25-6, 12 KOs) by seventh round knockout on Saturday afternoon at the Theater in Madison Square Garden.

Featherweight Allan Phelan (1-2) will fight James Small (0-3) this Saturday at Resorts Casino in Queens in a contest scheduled for four rounds. The 21-year-old hopes that this fight will help to kick off his professional career which has had its fair share of setbacks.

Featherweight Allan Phelan (2-2) knocked out James Small (0-4) in the second round of their fight at the Resorts Casino in Queens last Saturday.  In doing so, the 21-year-old exorcised the ghost of his last performance at the same venue, where he lost a close split decision to Micah Branch in September.
