Robbie Keane did not score on his debut as Celtic lost further ground to Rangers in the SPL when a Chris Maguire goal in the 53rd minute won the game for Kilmarnock on Tuesday night at Rugby Park.
The Republic of Ireland captain's best opportunity came just before halftime when he was put through on goal, but Kilmarnock keeper Cameron Bell denied the Irish striker a scoring debut.
The Bhoys had the chance to cut in Rangers’ 10-point lead but failed to break down Killie’s defense, and this costly defeat puts a real dent in their chances of hauling back Rangers.
After tonight’s fixture, both teams have played 23 games; Rangers are on 54 points and the Bhoys are on 44, and Walter Smith’s team has a goal difference of plus 20.
Tony Mowbray’s new look side had better start clicking and soon, or else they will have only second place to play for.
