After a more than impressive showing against Macedonia at the weekend Kieran Westwood retains his place in the Irish starting eleven for tonights friendly against Uruguay.
His hopes of having a quieter evening were increased when Luis Suarez decided to pull out of the game to rest a minor injury. Still the Uruguayans should bring a strong team to Dublin that will test the inexperienced Irish side.
Stephen Kelly replaces Robbie Keane as captain tonight in what will be his first ever outing wearing the armband for his country. Kelly is a solid right back who is likely to line up at left back to accommodate Kevin Foley who retains his place from the weekend.
Last night I watched Liam Brady sit on the RTE Panel after Ireland's underwhelming performance against Macedonia.
Brady appeared to be squirming whenever the camera showed him, a reflection of the fact that he can no longer carry out his job as a member of the media because of his personal relationships with the Irish team and management.
A goal after 86 seconds from Aiden McGeady set Ireland on their way early. McGeady was fed by Kevin Doyle, who later went off with what appears to be a serious knee injury, before cutting inside and beating the goalkeeper at the near post.
The goalkeeper looked unconvincing throughout the game and Ireland had obviously been encouraged to shoot on sight as they took every opportunity to do so.
Cardiff 15 v 16 Munster
Munster escaped Wales this evening with the narrowest of victories thanks to a late penalty from fly half Ronan O'Gara. O'Gara had missed four previous attempts but his 61st minute effort split the posts before Munster held out to win the game.
Captain Paul O'Connell gave the Munster team a boost with his first Magners League start of the season, which resulted in the team's first victory in their past five trips to Wales.
Back row forward James Coughlin scored the only try of the game in the first half after a counter attack from the impressive Keith Earls.
Leigh Halfpenny kicked four penalties in reply for the home side, while Dan parks added a drop goal but it wasn't enough to stop the Irish side going home with the points.
Glasgow Warriors 19-22 Ulster
Ulster once again have Ruan Pienaar to thank for their win on Friday night. Pienaar scored all 22 points in the team's victory in Scotland.
Pienaar scored a try before adding the conversion and 5 penalties to lift the team to a three point victory.
The two teams traded penalties in the first half before Ruaridh Jackson missed two crucial penalties at the start of the second. However it was a sign of Ulster's creaking defense as a blocked clearance led to the first try of the match for Glasgow replacement Ryan Grant.
Glasgow could not take advantage of scoring the first try in the match as they immediately gave Pienaar another chance to score from the restart. The fly half obliged before Rory Best came off the bench to breath new life into the tiring team. Unfortunately Best did little to help the cause, landing in the sin bin within minutes of coming on. In spite of that Pienaar created his own opportunity to score a leveling try before giving his team the lead in the dying moments. A tense finish saw Glasgow come back with a penalty of their own before the South African stole the show with late heroics from a long range penalty.

Its debate time again!
This time we're tackling a more conventional issue opposed to the unique Lebron James vs Lionel Messi debate from before.
The Player of the Tournament:
-Sean O'Brien
Having not started the opening game of the competition, O'Brien wasted no time in showing Declan Kidney that he should have been in from the start. His hard running and intensity traveling around the field meant the 24 year old made an immediate impression on Irish fans. The prospect of Heaslip and O'Brien in the Irish back row for the next decade or so is mouthwatering.

...which brings us to...

During a recent interview with KFAN 1130-AM in Minnesota, former New England Patriot and current free agent wide receiver, Randy Moss expressed his preference to return to the team he started last season with.
Moss was a star in New England during his three year tenure but was traded after four games to the Minnesota Vikings for a third round draft pick.

It's only a few weeks until the NFL draft and as things currently stand that will be the only football related event of this tumultuous off-season that could last for who knows how long.
The limitations brought about by the lack of free agency will hurt many teams substantially but the New England Patriots shouldn't feel the brunt of that.
Bill Belichick's recent draft classes have been by anyone's standards a success. Belichick has built a roster littered with youthful players that compliment the remaining stars of past Superbowls.

Yes, Ireland were punished by a poor decision by the touch judge in yesterday's RBS Six Nations game against Wales, but no it is not the reason that they lost the game.

If, like me, you are a casual college basketball fan up until february 28th but a huge March Madness fan then you're probably more confused than Charlie Sheen's liver right about now.
The one-and-done nature of college basketball has made it hard to keep up with the stars of the game because they are often gone just as quick as they appear. Last year's big players such as John Wall, Evan Turner and DeMarcus Cousins are all plying their trade in the NBA right now.

According to a report on deadspin.com New England Patriots' safety Brandon Meriweather has been accused of shooting two men during a brawl.

In what has come as a bit of a surprise, Declan Kidney has named an unchanged lineup for this weekends six nations clash in Wales.
The Miami Heat's loss to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday night was all too familiar.
They may be 1st in their division and stand at 43-19 overall but the South Beach based team are 1-8 in games against so called big teams such as the Celtics(0-3), Bulls(0-3), Spurs(0-1) and Mavericks(0-2). In fact their only victory came on Christmas day against the Los Angeles Lakers who haven't looked like a championship team for long stretches of the season despite their recent demolition of the Spurs.
The Heat rebuilt their roster during the offseason with talk of a record breaking regular season surrounding them and a self proclaimed ambition to win multiple championships.

No Lockout here!!!
The future of the NFL in America may be hanging in the balance as labour negotiations have continue on, but the American Football season in Ireland is just about to kick off.
Stephen Ireland has finally put an end to any slim chances of him returning to the Irish soccer setup in the future.
In an interview with a French magazine, So Foot, Ireland launched into a tirade about his treatment at Aston Villa under Gerrard Houllier before setting his sights on his 'homeland.'
He claims to have "better things to do" than play for Ireland and elaborates like a scornful teenager by saying; "National teams don't interest me...And when you are Irish, you are well aware you'll never win the World Cup...I won’t come back. I feel nothing for the national team. I don’t feel at all guilty when they lose and when they win I never say 'oh dear, I could have been there.'"

1.The Miracle on Ice
The 1980 Olympics will forever be remembered as the greatest Olympics in American Ice Hockey. A group of untested college and amateur athletes represented the United States in the semi finals of the Ice Hockey tournament where they met the Soviet Union team that had won 8 of the past 9 gold medals in the event. The Americans came into the tournament as the 7th seeds of 12 teams and had lost to the Soviets 10-3 in their previous matchup that year. In what will always be referred to as a 'miracle' the USA edged out a thrilling encounter that finished 4-3.

The Celtics have won the race to sign highly coveted free agent forward Troy Murphy.
Murphy could be a crucial signing for Boston after the trade of Kendrick Perkins left them light at center.
