Wales easily triumphed over a disappointing Irish side by 22-10 in the rugby world cup quarter final in Auckland, New Zealand.

The result was a shattering disappointment for an Irish team that had been fancied to go all the way to the final but who were outclassed and outplayed on the day.

Line out problems as well as a poor performance by key player, outhalf Ronan O'Gara meant the Irish team was always coming from behind as Wales seemed more committed and ready for the challenge.

Indeed, Wales should have won by more they spent most of the second half camped inside the Irish half and Priestland missed several easy shots at goal.

This was a shattering blow for Ireland who had defeated mighty Australia in their group and were widely expected to advance.

The defeat may end the careers of Irish legends such as Ronan O'Gara and possibly Brian O'Driscoll (pictured)

What a disappointment! Although if we were to be beaten you couldn't ask for a better country/nation to do so. I have an affinity for the Welsh and my few months working at John Summers Steel Works over the border fro the beautiful and historic town of Chester has remained as one of my most cherished of times. There wasn't much rugby up there at that time but I did see that chariot-like racing and of course was amazed at the purity of those choirs. Unlike our own country I found something very revealing ... I had a programme of a game, international one and at that time it seems it was the custom to state the player's occupations. The Irish had no manual workers or indeed they mightn't have ever known any save those who came in to mow the lawns or fix the toilet. On the other hand there were miners, steelworkers among the teachers and lawyers on the Cymru team. Just like that day in Ballybofey when I thought I would be supporting my adopted neighbour my true colours emerged and it was Fermanagh all the way. Great display men of Erin but yesterday the better team won and let's support them to the end.
Hmmm, BraindeadDillon. Why do you even read this rag if you are going to trash the Irish??? What a troll!
What's with these Irish? I stayed up late last night to watch this game, but I turned it off and went to bed. What's with that stupid song they sang? Where was the Irish National Anthem? Are the Irish ashamed of their own Anthem? What spineless skunks. Now I read that Wales won. Good! The Welsh cherish their language, it was a real treat to hear them sing in it. And if my memory is correct, there's a line in their anthem which says something like "Long may our old language endure". You wouldn't hear the gutless Irish singing that!
