A Notre Dame junior, Declan Sullivan, was killed on Wednesday when a video tower was blown over by strong winds.
Sullivan, 20, was rushed to a South Bend hospital but died from his injuries.
The football team and coaches were said to be in a deep state of shock after the incident .
Sullivan had been videotaping the practice at the time.
According to the Notre Dame Observer, he was taping the football practice from a hydraulic scissor lift.
There were winds of 51 miles per hour at the time according to one report.
Sullivan was originally from Long Grove, Illinois., was a journalist and contributor to the campus paper.
He also worked in the school's video department.
