3,000 hit hero Derek Jeter is African American and Irish.
His mother Dorothy is an Irish American accountant nammed Conner from New Jersey.
It was his mother's father, Sonny, a church handyman who inspired Jeter to take up baseball.
In his biography Jeter writes about his grandfather drilling, training and encouraging him for hours and instilling his passion for the game.
Jeter's father Charles, is African American and a substance abuse counselor.
Jeter refers in his biography to his Irish roots joking most people think he is either Italian or Hispanic and Black
His fiancee, Minka Kelly, is also of Irish extraction.

@Billyp79: Pete Rose is a disgrace to baseball and does not deserve any respect, nor does he deserve to get into the Hall of Fame. He should not have bet on baseball.

That irish mixture is powerful stuff. Much better than Guinness - look at the ancestries of our heros and presidents. Fighting Irish and as displayed on
St Patrick's Day of America's power - 250 years of
such parading. Signers of the Declaration by Hibernians etc etc.

Just another reason to love Derek Jeter! He is my favorite Yankee player, (since I am a Red Sox fan that is saying something.) He is a classy guy, great player and handsome too. Good for him, should have known he was Irish!!!
