Nate Montana for Montana State is no surprise -- never displayed Dad's ability at Notre Dame

Nate Montana will be playing for Montana.

It became official yesterday with the news that Montana, son of the legendary Joe, had transferred from Notre Dame to Montana State a Division IAAA team.

It brings to an end a fairy tale where Joe's son could rise up and lead Notre Dame like his dad did.

He briefly made it to No. 2 on the depth chart but faded, lacking his father's presence and incredible ability.

Nate's one chance to wake up the echoes was when he was pitched into the game against Michigan this year and it ended in failure and he never saw real playing time again.

It was always a long shot that Montana, who had left Notre Dame previously to attend junior college in California, would ever make it with the Irish but the legend of his father kept his story alive.

However, coach Brian Kelly now has more quarterbacks than he possibly needs and Nate was clearly surplus to requirements.

Pity, because he seemed a good kid and we can only wish him the best in Montana.

He will indeed be at U of M and not MSU. I went to MSU Go BobCats!!!
He won't be in Bozeman. He'll be in Missoula because he transferred to the University of Montana not Montana State.
He wil be just fine in Bozeman. A good place to be.
Brian Kelly does some bizarre things. His play calling is atrocious. I just don't know how good Montana really was. We will never really know. It may hve been a problem with attitude. Maybe, he wasn't cocky enough like his father. His father ran roughshod over the female set at ND. How many times was he married and how many times was he in Coach Devine's doghouse. Nevertheless like Charlie Sheen, he was cocky enough to get it done. As far as repesenting the morality of ND, Joe did not. Maybe, his son was just too moral.
With Tommy Rees fresh and ready, and with the return of Dayne Crist - Nate Montana could easily see a lot of (if not only) time on the sidelines. Montana has a talent. If he wants to use it, it only makes sense he go where he'll be played. Best of luck to Nate in Montana.
Kelly took a decent play by Montana and turned it into a disaster. Montana, albeit luckily, completed a pass to the 2 yard line with seconds to go in the first half. Kelly, with quarterback, Montana, without experience, goes for a touchdown instead of certain field goal. Montana fails and his chance for success goes too. Boo to Kelly. Going into the locker room down 4 instead of 7 makes a difference. Nate would never be Joe but at least don't screw it up, coach.
