Alice Ward, the mother of fighter Irish Mickey Ward has died in a Boston-area hospital.
Melissa Leo,pictured, won an Oscar for her portrayal of Alice Ward, in the movie 'The Fighter' based on her son's life
She was 79 and had suffered a cardiac arrest and was taken off life support.
Her death was first reported in her hometown newspaper the Lowell Sun
