Is Notre Dame's Brian Kelly snake bitten like Charlie Weis after Michigan State loss?

Notre Dame’s overtime loss to
Michigan State when they perfectly executed a fake field goal in the last second of overtime was hard to believe.
In the process the Michigan State call will enter the annals as the gutsiest call in college football for many a year.
It may prove to be a turning point in
Brian Kelly’s Notre Dame career.
At
Cincinnati he won all the close ones it seemed, had luck on his side.
It was the kind of game his predecessor
Charlie Weis would also surely have lost but Kelly has now had two heartbreaks two weeks in a row , losing on the final play.
Could it be Brian Kelly is now snake bitten too after this incredible loss?
Notre Dame lack that killer instinct and this defeat will take quite a while to recover from.
They are in serious danger of slumping to 1-5 in the upcoming weeks with their tough schedule.
It had all looked so good up to the incredible finish.
Whatever Brian Kelly told his quarterback
Dayne Crist at half time in this Michigan State game it had the impact of a barrel of red bull.
Crist came out so energised that he resembled
Joe Montana (who was at the game) in his heyday.
His second half display was awesome as he marched the
Irish up and down the field, seemingly picking his targets at will.
Crist is clealry a quarterback who needs to have his confidence reinforced at key times.
After an indifferent second quarter and a bad interception, Crist looked suddenly vulnerable.
Clearly what Kelly said to him at half time restored that elusive confidence and made him unstoppable.
In the process he gave an insight into what the Kelly era will look like at Notre Dame where a relentless aerial and ground attack will be simply unstoppable against many teams.
Defence is still a work in progress also, and the final play will have gutted them, especially as it now has transpired that time was up on the kick.
But that's football.

On October 2, the real Irish Catholic football program will take the field against ND. It should be a good game because BC has no offense.

As far as I'm concerned, Notre Dame (French for "Our Lady") was cursed the day the pres. of ND invited Obama to not only give the commencement address, but they gave him an award! Obama, who is no friend to Catholics, despite allegedly having spent some time in a Catholic school, was the last guy ND should have invited. Legions of Catholic ND fans have abandoned the school and could care less if the ND team ever won another game. I watched the end of the game and I felt absolutely nothing when they lost. Good for them!

Kelly is no Rockne. Talk about being outcoached....

You only have to win by 1 point & when the refs. give em 7 makes it tuff. I don't consider ND an Irish college any more. Just stating facts, the clock had ran out.

What was the defensive coordinator thinking? No one looking for a pass? How often do you block a field goal?
SouthBendNative | Sep 19, 2010, 07:03 PM EDT
Maloney, it should not have mattered. ND has not shown it can play defense. Blaming the referees is for losers. Face it, BK and the Irish have come to the last 2 games unprepared. It's not a lack of talent, it's not officiating, it's coaching. This crew is not ready for the big time. Maybe they can learn on the job. The probability of them successfully leading ND to a national title are remote, IMO.

Obamar - why do Brits have to put a "r" at the end of such names and words. The all sound like cockneys even the best of them while their toffs speak as if they have lisps or with a spud in their mouths.

o'shea...I don't think you or the posters below even watched the game. If you had you would know the men in stripes beat ND, not Mich St. On the final play time ran out on the clock B4 the ball was snapped!! There for the touchdown should NOT have counted. Refs. need fired for incompitance.

Haikued2..Ara Parseghian would be a great example. Don't make excuses for Kelly. His decision making has been terrible. The team has shown up unprepared for the past 2 weeks. His prized pretty boy DC, Bob Diaco, is what we thought he was....overmatched. ND will not return to greatness until they commit to being a top program. That means they don't settle for coaches who have never coached in a big time game..ala Brian Kelly. ND is 1-2 vs weak teams. Teams that they had the talent advantage against. Nobody expected ND to go undefeated, but certainly we had the right to expect solid coaching decisions and a team that plays hard for the entire game. I hope Kelly turns it around, but thus far he is a major disappointment. All talk...with Weis-like results. I expect more and you should too.

Southbendnative...What coach comes in to any of the top programs and wins all the games his first season. The boys are still learning to play the system and there are still some defense issues from the Weis era. Ed, ND Class of 61
haikued2 | Sep 19, 2010, 09:54 AM EDT
Bunk. Kelly will be one of the best coaches the Irish have had. No doubt the nay sayers and second guessers are piling on, but his term is young...The skill levels and potential for the kids coming in are very high...he will get the best out of them..Ed, ND Class of 61.

Kelly was out-coached last night!
SouthBendNative | Sep 19, 2010, 01:09 AM EDT
He's not snakebitten, he's reached the Peter Principle. He clearly talked a good game and can't back it up with on the field results. He, like Charlie Weis, is in over his head. By the way, when was Crist unstoppable last year? He barely played.
