Bad Ben Roethlisberger means I will be cheering for Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl

I will be cheering for Green Bay on Sunday even though I have a lot of respect for the Pittsburgh owners, the Rooney family and the great work they have done in Ireland as well with the Steelers.

Fact is though I can't stand Ben Roethlisberger. The Pittsburgh quarterback is everything that is wrong with professional sport.
Like Michael Vick who abused helpless animals, Big Ben came perilously close to rape charges on two occasions.

I understand youthful indiscretions but following a drunken woman to a bathroom and doing who knows what there is not my idea of a trivial matter

It wasn't the first time Big Ben had gone off the reservation either . Once is bad enough , two is a rap record.

Yet the NFL star machine s busy repackaging both Vick and Roethlisberger as comeback stories, worthy of the name of heroes.

They are far from it and it is ironic that Ben plays with the Steelers, the organization that has come to symbolize class and respect in the NFL.

So call me a cheese head on Sunday in a game that promises to be an old fashioned donnybrook between two of the greatest franchise teams in American sport.

Just don't include Big Ben in the pantheon of Pittsburgh greats, not now, not ever.

Go Packers.

First off I 'm a Patriot fan giving I'm from MA. I will be cherring for the Packers on Sunday I am so sick of all sports players getting away with just about anything they do the every day person would be in jail for doing any of these antics. I like RickMc8 comment. I to feel for the victims and pets, but lets forget about them because its all about the game thats really sad. Go Packers
Same here, and my mother's from Johnstown, outside Pittsburgh. Go, Green Bay. Also, this Super Bowl shows that profit-sharing works! Pittsburgh and Green Bay could not be competitive in any other league.
Wait! Talk about pre-judging! Big Ben has NEVER been charged with a crime. I think you are awfully quick to judge him based on unconfirmed reports. And besides, what does any of that have to do with playing quarterback in the Super Bowl? Go Big Ben, and go Steelers!
What do you think of the NFL instituting a mandatory "no felony" rule starting in 2016? No one with a felony record plays for the NFL (period). Existing ex-con's would be grandfathered, I guess?!?? The idea is that young men growing up would avoid trouble - if they ever want a career as a professional athlete. Can you imagine how many more role models in pro sports there would be for young people to look up to if such a rule could be implemented? I'd like to see the same thing in all major league sports. Now, I realize that people need second chances and, therefore, this shouldn't be implemented. It just pains me to see so many characters (without character) get away with crimes just because they are good athletes, let alone the glory they get. I really feel for the victims and the injustice they must feel.
Hey, when you were hootin' it up for Rex Ryan and the Jets, not once did I see you write about Antonio Cromartie. The man has fathered nine kids with eight women living in six states. Yeah, he has a lot of respect for women. I guess it's not a story when they're playin' for your team!! And oh yeah, remember the career Packer Mark Chmura who was charged with child enticement and 3rd degree sexual assault for what he did to his 17 year old babysitter. Every team in the NFL has a criminal or two, that's why it's nicknamed the National Felons League! I do not respect Ben off the field but recognize him for what he is on the field, a great quarterback who will be a Steeler great if he wins this weekend. There's a difference between great player and individual commiting criminal acts a la Lawrence Taylor, Michael Irvin, Tank Johnson, Michael Vick, Cedric Benson, Chris Henry, Pacman Jones etc. Is LT no longer a Giant Great....he just plead guilty to sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute?
Well said Sean
Just remember that he was "tackled for a loss" by a little old lady when he was on his motorcycle. He went face first into the windshield and suffered multiple broken bones to his face. I presume that she got even for every woman "Big Ben" has wronged.
Ben is one player(& a good one) on a team...many team members are active in the Pgh. community & give above & beyond - they don't get headlines! Most of the 70's Steelers are still in Pgh. & are beloved by all here - most of us are willing to see if Ben can redeem himself by his actions OFF the field - in the meantime - we don't abandon our team.
I am for Green Bay, since, as a Giant fan, I nearly always root for the NFC team, in the Super Bowl. However, I do see Sean's point. Ben treated girls with no respect, which goes against what all of us guys were taught, early on. I read that he had his security assistant escort one girl into the men's room, where Ben demanded oral sex from her. I think that is grossly improper, because 1)The girl had too much to drink, and 2)He had no right demanding this from her, in any case. A local newspaper chided Ben (28), for seeking company with a 20-year old. That is way off base. A 20 year old is old enough to go out with, but she should be treated with respect! I think Ben is making a good attempt to reform his bad ways, following his 4 game suspension, at the start of the season. I disagree with Sean, regarding rehabilation. Both Ben & Michael Vick should be given another chance. So far, both have made the best of the opportunity given to them by the Commissioner.
He who is without sin no let me just say that Ben is not the only player on that team. WE have a saint on this team too Palamolu who makes a sign of the cross on each play. Should you be rooting against him I think not
