Rory McIlroy hails from Holywood County Down, literally "the Holy Wood' and it is a strange coincidence that he destroyed Tiger Woods as the undisputed king of golf last Sunday.

The spark of genius typified the performance of the Northern Irishman who finished the day at a spectacular -16 in a tournament he led from the first day.

His margin of victory was eight strokes, the most comprehensive win in a golf major since the heyday of Tiger Woods.

Rory McIlroy says a new cockiness and belief in himself is helping him break records at the US Open.

Speaking after his record breaking two round total McIlroy stated:

" I'm feeling good, feeling very good you know, it's funny to me, you know, it feels quite simple. I'm hitting fairways. I'm hitting greens. I'm holing my fair share of putts. And that's really been the key. There's no -- and I've missed a couple of greens that I was able to get it up and down. But apart from that, it's just been -- I've just really stuck to my game plan and stuck to what I wanted to do, very committed to my targets, that's basically it.

The New York Times is reporting that Anthony Weiner is set to step down today bringing an end to his political career.

Washington Post legend David Broder once remarked that the one reaction politicians cannot survive is when people begin laughing at the mention of their name.

Remember the unfortunate Admiral Stockdale who ran as Ross Perot's running mate and became a staple of late nigh comedians because of his inability to handle the spotlight?

Irish horse Master of Hounds can win Belmont Stakes from Animal Kingdom and Shackleford

When I saw the draw for the Belmont Stakes with Master of Hounds drawn number one I found my selection for the race.

With all the speed and the favorites drawn to the outside Master of Hounds under Garret Gomez should get the perfect ground-saving trip in behind the leaders.

If Gomez can get him to relax around Big Sandy he can come with his run down that endless Belmont straight where so many Triple Crown hopefuls have come to die
