Following Darren Clarke's amazing victory in the British Open, Northern Ireland can now claim back to back golf majors winners, the only country other than the United States that has done that since 1910.

It also gave them three of the last six major golf championships. an incredible feat for a state smaller than Long Island and with less population.

Rory McIlroy off to one over start at British Open, six shots behind lead


Rory McIlory got off to a reasonable start at the British Open in Royal Sandwich, bogeying the first hole and dropping another shot to par to go two over after 12 but he pulled one back on the 17th .

That was six shots behind current leader Thomas Bjorn who was at five under as he completed his first round

McIlroy scrambled to save par on the second but dropped another shot on the third.

Padraig Harrington admits he over practiced after winning the majors


Padraig Harrington has admitted for the first time that he over practiced and over thought his golf game which led to his spectacular slump after winning three majors.

"I was so afraid of not playing well and not making the cut I over-practiced. I was flogged by Sunday - I played better golf, but scored worse because I was making bad decisions."

He stared: "There was a time I'd keep things to myself, but I'm getting to an age now where I'm not so worried about telling people.

Harrington says McIlroy ready for British Open-- Disputes Montgomerie comment that he needed more playing time

Grunting and belching Maria Sharapova did not deserve Wimbledon victory


I'm glad Maria Sharapova was defeated in the Wimbledon final by Petra Kvitova in two sets.

That grunting gig has really put me off her.

She's a beautiful lady but she is doing the equivalent of a major belch every time she hits the ball.
