Scooby Doo (Johnny Manziel) wins the Heisman Trophy
By: Cormac Eklof | Published Friday, January 18, 2013, 10:30 AM | Updated Friday, January 18, 2013, 10:30 AM
And so it has come to this. Scooby Doo has won the Heisman Trophy. By Scooby Doo we of course mean Texas A&M's
Johnny Manziel, the diminutive QB who will, let's face it, have a very hard time making at the next level. Despite losing twice in the NCAA football season. Despite having been arrested and charged with three misdemeanours -- disorderly conduct, failure to identify, and possession of a fictitious driver's license. Despite dressing up as Scooby Doo for Halloween and allowing himself to be pictured with several scantily clad females (hey, it's a free world, but, do you see more serious football players allowing themselves to be caught in those situations?!).
Looking back, a day after the event, you do of course have to empathize with the Heisman voters. In fairness to them, it is not like they had any alternative in selecting their Heisman winner. Clearly they didn't have anyone else to choose, I mean, it's not like they had the hard working, emotional and football-passionate leader of an unbeaten team with four ranked teams amongst it's scalps.
Read More: Notre Dame defensive coach Bob Diaco said to interview for Boston College jobIt's not like they had the fearsome defensive captain of a team that led the entire NCAA in points allowed per game (an almost unbelievable 10). It's not like they had the ferocious leader of a defence that's going to play for the BCS title in January whom they could have selected instead of Johnny Police Record.
All facetiousness and indeed all team allegiances aside, ask yourself a question. Which player is more likely to be a household name in 3-4 years time. Manziel or Te'o? And to stress, we're talking for football reasons. Not because he might be all over the Internet in situations like the below.
I'm going to come out and say it. Very odd choice by the Heisman voters. They had a chance to pick a football player who does nothing but eat, sleep and drink the game. A ferocious, hard nosed tackler who's devotion to football is only second to his family and his studies. Not only that, they had a chance to pick a winner, who has driven his team to a unbeaten season and a chance to play for the title.

Seriously Heisman voters?
Read more college football stories hereUpdate! 18th January 2012Well, well, well. How about that! Thanks to
Manti Te'o, Johnny Football all of a sudden looks like a choir boy! You can read my full apology to Johnny in
this Manti Te'o article. Is there a lesson in all of this? Perhaps, like the tagline of the movie Traffic,
''No One Gets Away Clean''. Hopefully your Texas folk are enjoying the whole Te'o revelation, and judging by the emails and comments, you sure are.
If you have a dictionary somewhere look up the term 'Schadenfreude'. In the meantime, once again, congratulations Johnny, as it turns out, you were not the least worthy character based candidate!

This blog is a joke, and shame on Notre Dame for being a party to Manti's lies. Is there anything left to say?
s0phb0x | Jan 17, 2013, 07:36 PM EST
Hi, s0phb0x - what do you think about this? I think this is the most laughable blog I have ever read! So what if Johnny Football likes a good time - he's a WINNER. Manti Te'o is a LOSER (see his reprehensible performance against Alabama when it counted) and he defrauded Heisman voters and the American public by inventing a girlfriend. I guarantee Cormac Eklof feels incredibly stupid today...
Truth | Jan 17, 2013, 04:29 PM EST
So my original comment got deleted, like all of these South Bend Tribune articles about Te'o and his girlfriend. You Irish are too much. Fiction-writing, average linebackers, rapists on the football team, the fake Gipper story, Joe THEESman, Rudy. Cover-ups and sensationalism at Notre Dame. Fools Gold.
johnJ | Jan 17, 2013, 12:17 PM EST
Wow, Te'o the man of character made up a girlfriend and killed her off in hopes of getting Heisman votes he did not deserve. Now Notre Dame, the school good at covering up screw ups lately from the girl to the scissor lift embarrassments is going all in with their lying player. So much for Christianity. Face it Domers, NOBODY is buying it, too many holes and the screen captures have all been made so delete all you want. Facts are that you tried like Hell Manti to win yourself an award you did not deserve and your embarrassment of a school help you in your scheme. Nobody is buying it! And those weren't missed tackles in the NC game, no that was Manti hugging his made up dead girlfriend. That ought to help that draft status if you spin it appropriately.

YellerBelly - You really need a "timeout". You're only showing your envy in Johnny and embarrassment in Notre Shame with your attacks. Calling Johnny a criminal for a schoolboy prank ID and being drunk is laughable. Unlike Te'o, Johnny learned from his stupid mistake and I'll bet you he never has another issue (other than speeding like me). Johnny gives his time to charitable organizations and individuals. The article author is equally as ignorant and apparently never had a party. The pictures of Johnny enjoying some Halloween partying might not represent saint-hood but it certainly isn't symptomatic of a dark-twisted individual. You guys own that individual. As for Johnny's NFL future, sure any QB is likely to suffer an injury but you point to a RG3 and I point to a 5'11" Tyler Wilson with Seattle, who is more like Johnny. Just accept your faux-heisman candidates disgrace and use those Irish prayers for him.
tpmchris | Jan 17, 2013, 08:13 AM EST
What was that about character?
puro_ag | Jan 17, 2013, 04:41 AM EST
Oh the delusional fail by the Dome asses. If only JFF was smart enough to only party with imaginary girls like Manti
Ketchum | Jan 17, 2013, 01:25 AM EST
Well at least the Heisman trophy winner was pictured with REAL girls, not the make believe ones that Teo had. Teo showed in the BCS bowl how legit he was, missed tackle after missed tackle. He shouldn't have even gone to NY. The media looks really foolish now falling for his story but you can blame Notre Dame itself for going along with the lie just to try to manipulate the Heisman to where it didn't belong.
YellerBelly | Jan 08, 2013, 10:33 AM EST
Sure he's a Heisman winner and Cotton Bowl MVP. But he's still a criminal with a penchant for lame, ironic costumes and easy women. Give me a stand-up guy with class and integrity in Te'o anyday. A man, not a child, who will have a major impact in the NFL unlike an undersized, running quarterback (Anybody see what happened to RGIII. Sure, haters. You're right. He'll always have "his Heisman" and his "Freshman scoring records in the SEC". But very likely like former Heisman bust, Tim Couch, he'll be that guy out of the league in 3 years or so failing to catch onto a team as a backup. An the neighborhood kids will dare each other to knock on his door and ask "Were you really a Heisman. Can I please see it?"
DaddyMac22 | Jan 07, 2013, 05:59 AM EST
@tpmchris: not one of those yards changes the fact he is of dubious character, at best.
tpmchris | Jan 05, 2013, 06:49 AM EST
How about 516 total yards (Cotton Bowl record) for Mr. Johnny Football in a blowout? Checkmate
YellerBelly | Dec 12, 2012, 04:49 PM EST
You stupid, toothless SEC hicks. Lay off that moonshine boys and really go back to your cousins as you have no idea of which you speak or spit in your case. Notre Dame would kill any team this season in the SEC. Oklahoma will neuter Scooby Doo, a team the Fighting Irish schooled. Then lets all talk when finished with your cousins. True Manziel put up gig numbers against garbage teams. Those numbers don't count. Heisman aside we will know who has a real NFL career(cough Te'o) and not (cough 'Johnny Football) And that is what really counts. Lets not forget Te'o set a record and recieved 6 awards for his defensive efforts. How many awards did Johnny Smallballs get? Lets all not forget that people hate Notre Dame like they do all the great, successful sports institutions out of spite and jealousy. Plus T'eo is not white and wears wierd flowers they were hatin' on him. Lets do predictions. OU 34 Texas A&M 20 ND 14 Alabama 10 Johnny Football: TV Repairman living in a trailer park (garaunteed he gets arrested again and is tossed out of school) Manti T'eo: All-Pro defensive lineman
YellerBelly | Dec 10, 2012, 12:45 PM EST
12 comments. 12 angry Texas A&M fans. Not one person has looked at the subject and suggested they might have toned down their behaviour a little, or possible, stayed 'not arrested', instead they lash out at everything else bar 'their guy' - shocker, right?!
teadoir | Dec 10, 2012, 11:52 AM EST
ND is a joke, they need to get into a conference........they would get crushed by Auburn or Kentucky if they had the balls to play in the SEC......can't wait to Alabama whips the Irish (you would be hard pressed to find an Irish American starting at ND) and you can stop all this idiotic press for a two bit college football program
Agalways | Dec 09, 2012, 07:21 PM EST
Wow, Notre Dame should be proud of this trash. You lost, get over it. Serious case of Johnny envy here - very poor journalism.
richbeachcity | Dec 09, 2012, 05:15 PM EST
Mr Cormak Eklof (if that is really your name), You have about as much of a chance predicting the NFL success of either of these guys as I do .. which is 0. I am laughing at your cry baby article and although your man is a great player and person, the people have spoken. Why not take the news with the grace and dignity Teo did?
zmac127 | Dec 09, 2012, 04:29 PM EST
Poooooooooooooor irish
Rbroom | Dec 09, 2012, 04:21 PM EST
If Johnny would have raped a little boy, he would have been a hero at Notre Dame.
Rbroom | Dec 09, 2012, 04:07 PM EST
Your attempt at being so humanely cruel surpasses the hypocrisy of Notre Dame. Your judging a 20 year old kid because of misdemeanor's while your church allowed its leaders to repeatedly abuse and molest little boys, then they covered it up. The lives that were destroyed and the faith of people like myself that used to be catholic, were all destroyed in the process. Hypocrisy at an all time high at Notre Dame. It lows my mind. Why don't you and your fan base look within your on university and your faith and sweep off your own side of the street before you come on here and throw sticks at others, yes Take the logs out of your own eyes, preacher kid Butt fudgers.
mtf | Dec 09, 2012, 12:50 PM EST
I'm confused. Didn't I hear something about Notre Dame football players and a rape and a suicide? So that's no big deal, but what Johnny did off the field is? OK.
footballfan88 | Dec 09, 2012, 12:39 PM EST
WOW, talk about a sore loser! Seriously? You shouldn't be allowed access to platforms like this. The kid broke Cam Newton's All-Purpose yards record in basically 10 games (when you add the amount of time he didn't play b/c the game was a blowout). The Heisman is awarded to the most outstanding college football player, that's it! Dumbass! Go Huskers!
