Q: I recently became a naturalized US citizen. I’ve been looking for a new job, and it seems to me that some prospective employers have been hassling me unfairly about my immigration status. This may be because of my accent or the country I originally came from. Is there anything that I can do?
The fraternal organization of law enforcement officers and firefighters of Irish decent will honor Barry O’Donovan, proprietor of the Kilkenny House Restaurant and Pub in Cranford, as Irishman of the Year and Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr as Irishwoman of the Year.
Irish entertainment will be provided by the Eamonn Ryan Band. Tickets include beer, wine, soda and snacks and cost $25.
The Irish Heritage Society of Milford presents a collaborative program featuring the trio “Ask Your Father,” comprising of Rick Spencer, Rich and Dee Kelly.
Take a musical journey through the history of the songs of Irish America! A historical narrative and music program will begin the evening. Following a brief intermission, there will be a second set of Irish music.
Jubilant Clare supporters attended the Cara Club in Brighton this week. There were noticeable broad smiles and lively spirits as Clare’s pulsating performance was discussed, dissected and celebrated. Pat Ahern, a proud Clare man, who has witnessed many years worth of All Ireland's, stated it was the ‘greatest one he’s ever seen’. It would be very hard to disagree, and that’s coming from a proud Cork woman. It’s wonderful to see what the spirit of the GAA can do to men and women who left Ireland behind in the 1950’s and 60’s, but hold hurling dearly and fiercely in their hearts.
Maith thú and congratulations to Clare but don’t get too fond of Liam, the Leeside of Cork will have him back next year!
The Silver Key is awarded those in recognition for their outstanding contributions to the Irish Community. In addition to Sr. Marguerite the other recipients are Seamus Mulligan, WROL and Arden O’Connor.
Online registration for the DV 2015 Program began on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 12:00 noon, Eastern Daylight Time and will conclude on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 12:00 noon, Eastern Daylight Time. This lottery is open to eligible immigrants and anyone with eligibility questions can email me at my address above. After screening, those who want to apply for the lottery will be provided with assistance on the application.

We had a good turnout at our clinic this wee where Attorney Dan Harrington who specializes in immigration and citizenship cases donated his time assisting immigrants on immigration and US citizenship related matters. Thanks also to our legal program volunteers Neil Hurley and Sheila Gleeson who donate many hours each month to our mission.

These events will be open to uninsured and under-insured immigrants and others and will provide important information about the Affordable Care Act, insurance plan enrollment and accessing health and social services. Other organizations that will be present include Health Care for All, the Mass League of Community Health Centers, Community Action Committee of Cape and the Islands and more.
