How far are you willing to go to raise money for charity? A charity-walk? A sponsored cake-sale? How about stepping into a boxing ring for the first time in front of six hundred people? That’s the prospect that lies in store for twenty fool-hardy and charity friendly hub area residents on March 2nd. Having volunteered to participate they are currently in training to acquire enough fitness and boxing skills to wow the crowd and raise money for a hard working charity.
The Belmar/Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee is pleased to announce our 2013 Grand Marshal is Larry Walsh of Howell, and our Deputy Grand Marshals are Jackie Cavanagh and Anne Aker, both of Belmar. They will be installed at Mass at 10:00 a.m., March 2, 2013 at St. Rose Church, Belmar, followed by a luncheon at Doolan’s Shore Club. (for tickets call 732-280-2648). Grand Marshal Larry Walsh and Deputy Grand Marshals Jackie Cavanagh and Anne Aker will be leading one of the largest parades in NJ on March 3, 2013.
The Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee will host its annual “Finnegan’s Wake” party and “Guinness Fun Run/Walk” on Saturday, February 23, at the Blackthorn Restaurant and Irish Pub located at 651 N. Michigan Avenue in Kenilworth, New Jersey.
Registration for the “Guinness Fun Run/Walk” will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Blackthorn. There is a $25 registration fee that includes a t-shirt, complimentary beverages and admission into the “Finnegan’s Wake” party. The race will commence at 12:30 p.m. The race should end by 12:35.
“Finnegan’s Wake” will feature live Irish-American entertainment by The Mike Byrne Band starting at 12:45 p.m. Admission is $20 per person and includes beer, wine and food. Author John Kelly will discuss his latest book, “The Graves are Walking: The Great Famine and the Saga of the Irish People” at Ireland’s Great Hunger Museum at Quinnipiac University, 3011 Whitney Avenue, from 5:30-6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7.
