A number of controlled explosions have been carried out on suspected unexploded World War Two shells found in a quarry in Newry, Co. Down.

The quarry, which is located beside Blue Lough was used as a firing practice range for artillery during the war.

Army bomb experts arrived at the site and removed one of the shells for further examination Tuesday afternoon.
