New stamps will honor Irish suffrage

The Irish postal service An Phost, has released two stamps based on the theme of women’s rights to celebrate the centenary of International Women’s Day.

In conjunction with the National Women’s Council of Ireland (NWCI), An Phost designed two stamps and specially commissioned postcards to celebrate the event, which is taking place on March 8.

Renoned Irish designer Ger Garland designed the stamps, one of which is in the style of the suffrage handbills of the early 20th century. The second stamp shows the a purple presentation of the female symbol.

Anna McHugh of An Post said they are expecting a strong interest in the commemorative stamps.

"These stamps are a fitting tribute to those pioneering women of past centuries as well as those who continue that work today."

CORRECTION: My information regarding the number of Seats gained by Women in the last Election in my comment @01.55 was quite incorrect. They landed twenty five. Sorry Girls!

I'm luck to have finally met a man good enough to be with ME Ive been raised by strong Irish moter & My Irish Nana, was a huge part of my life and you are correct to say NOT All men are Ulsess I just happen to work for corrections & see them by the 100's daily and not to mention a few in my past, However i didnt realize my blogging on this was going to get spell/check.? Im just fond of finding Men/people bad mouthing the struggle's of women to feel better, what year is this what century is this, i refuse to bite my tongue when i read or heard so called mn putting down women what did a female ever do to you Hmmmmm???? Opnions are like Ass holes everyone has ONE!

Laura, I really am pleased you seem to be happy now but it makes your post @10.58 all the more puzzling. Please don't label all men by your own experience - afrer all, I bet they built the home you live in and invented and probably made the Batteries you put so much faith in! As for the Irishman in your life: We are noted for our love and command of the English language: and if you speak it as well as you 'write' it; I am not surprised he lost the will to live! Stay happy!

Dont worrie about me i kicked the Lazy looser to the curb & found a fine man & yet i can still make it ON MY OWN man can be replaced by Batteries in a blink of an eye :) wort man in my life was Irish what a shame

DON'T BE A LABELLER, Laura! a whimsical tongue-in -cheek comment intending to lighten the subject, is not hating! ~ The snapshot of your life and love experiences, does seem bleak, and I wonder how you came to be so unlucky with you men. Never Mind! ~ Keep trying ~ improve your offer ~ and you will find there are stacks of strong spines and billions of balls just waiting for your loving attention! ~~~ The stamps won't show images of any unwashed children,dishes and floors,or pictures of the wealthy English non-working women who began the Movement for female voting rights, which later spread to Ireland. ~ ~ ~ Anyone interested in this subject will note with some sadness that despite the Women of Ireland being allowed to vote freely in the last Election ~ they did not Return one single woman to a Seat in the Irish Parliament!
