A festival in Kilkenny entitled “Kilkenomics” is planning to launch Europe's strongest currency over the weekend of the 11th-14th of November.The currency can be exchanged one for one with the Euro but it will have an increased value of 1.10 in selected bars, bookshops and restaurants around Kilkenny.
The notes will feature the faces of famous Kilkenny people including Willie Duggan, who played rugby for Ireland and Jonathan Swift the author of Guilliver’s Travels.
The “Kilkenomics Festival” will combine comedy and economics commentators including David McWilliams, Olivia O’Leary, Dearbhail McDonald, Shane Ross, Nick Webb and Fintan O’Toole.
