An IrishCentral reader, Donna Barrington, sent us through some hilarious shots of her hardworking son's hard shoes. Her son, Owen, is currently touring with the "Riverdance" and lead dancer in the new PBS special "Beyond Celtic". As you can see from his shoes (left) he's hard at work.

His mother took a photo of his shoes before and after his his homemade "repair" job. She commented "It’s a great testimony to the wonders of gaffer tape."

Wow! What happens to their toes? Ouch!
Doesn't matter how many times I watch the entire company line up routine at the end of any Riverdance show,it still sends shivers up my spine! Glorious spectacle-makes me want to shout out 'Im Irish and these are my people!'
That was a game changing moment in Irish cultural history...I remember being totally gabsmacked when I saw that 'interval' act on Eurovision or whatever it wa called...it sent chills up my spine...I had to phone peeople to make sure I wasn't hallucinating I have seen Riverdance and watched the show many many times no matter how many times I see it I never tire of it...it still has an innate energy that cannot be denied and it is a distillation of the emigrant story...I love the rhythms of the heavy shoes...that 'noise' is primal...I bought my sister the DVD for Christmas one year...my 2 yr old nephew was transfixed..he went on to be an accomplished Irish dancer and competed in the Worlds in the US and UK...His background in Irish dance led to a career choice in Choreography which he is now studying at Drama College...four minutes of Riverdance...life changing...Good job the Diaspora still value it's heritage the Tiger kittens sure as hell don't...and maybe we'll have a President who does..who knows..?
I live in Ireland Doopies Mom, and we watched the first ever riverdance on the European Song Contest, the crowd went mad, and it was talked about for weeks, the atmosphere was electric, I still love to watch it and feel proud.
Ahhh, the beauty and dedication to this dance! I had the WONDERFUL pleasure of seeing Riverdance in Eugene,Oregon,(USA) on their farewell tour. AMAZING dancers! Being part Irish myself, it made my heart sing and a desire to be closer to my heritage even stronger! I pray that the Celtic talents will never cease!
