A graveyard in the
Aran Islands is so full that they are now burying the dead on pathways.
Islanders on
Inis Mor have tried for several years to extend the cemetery at Cnocan na mBan and they suffered more setbacks when they discovered the newly acquired land for the planned extension had been designated under the
EU's Habitats Directive.
Before the news, local resident, Jamesie O Flatharta was delighted that the graveyard crisis had finally been solved.
"It is already gone to the stage where people are being forced to bury their relatives on the cemetery pathways", he said.
"When Galway County Council negotiated for extra land at Cnocan na mBan at Cill Mhuirbhigh, we thought the problem was sorted, but now the botanical survey has set us all back," he added.
Councillor, Sean O Tuairisc told the Herald newspaper that the situation was critical.

The Spanish burial method is not a bad idea, In Spain the dead are buried inside brick-cubby-holes located inside a wall. So far no users ever complained so it may well have a 5* rating. Human burial became popular when some miserable 'git' decided shrunken skulls were downmarket, and it was improper to have them slung from your belt to indicate to the girls what a brave warrior you are. At a later date you could join your local 'walk the earth forever' Zombie organisation, but the arrival of movies and two actors named Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff sort of made that business 'die a death'.

Live people are moving into the Cairo cemetery, it is so overcrowded there. But if people insist on being buried, rater than the alternatives, then they should be planted vertically instead of horizontally it will take up way less room this way.

Maybe they ought to consider cremation as a solution.

Not trying to be funny but maybe burial at sea might be a option it is a island plus When Jesus comes it is said the the sea will give up its dead also you could maybe build a pier of sort where you could do it and put plaques on the pier like gravestones with your loved ones info on it
