Driving down Dame Street
A beautiful video posted on YouTube by "willmcq" is spreading like wildfire on Twitter and Facebook.

He describes the video as "My dad and his friend filmed themselves driving around Dublin city centre in 1974. They drove down Grafton Street and up by Dame Street by the central bank (still being built) then down past Trinity College and up to the top of O'Connell street. Check out the flares and 1970s cars."

Whether his father had the foresight to add the soundtrack or the addition of "Canned Heat's "On the Road Again" or it was willmcq's doing the music fits in perfectly with this incredible footage.

Here's the video:

It is great! I remember those days, arriving in Ireland for the summer holidays. You knew you were definitely home when you saw those red number plates!(plus no traffic jams!)p.s. the styling of the cars was so cool then!
The short video clip is neither "beautiful" nor "incredible" as alleged by the anonymous "IrishCentral Columnists" (how many damned writers were needed to assemble this short, trivial report?). The clip is interesting, but don't exaggerate wildly and destroy people's estimation of you.
Most if not all the drivers of vehicles in the video are dead now. Back in them days you had to be over 40 years old and a pipe smoker before you were allowed pilot a vehicle.
what's beautiful about it , it's just a guy driving around Dublin in 1974....
" this incredible footage"???? What ridiculous hype by Irish Central. There's nothing particularly interesting about this clip. The only big change I noticed was that Grafton Street was still open to vehicle traffic. But it was one-way. If you went back a few years more Grafton Street would have been two-way.
