Last year saw a 127 percent increase in the number of farm deaths, a new report has revealed.
According to data from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), a total of 25 people were killed in farming accidents in 2010, up from 11 in the previous year.
The HSA said that tackling accident rates in the agriculture sector continues to be a high priority. They added that the number of inspections would increase this year.
Last year a total of 47 people died at work, compared to 43 in 2009.
Most probably due to the downturn in the construction industry, fatal accidents in this sector dropped from six to 10 last year.
Four people died from fishing related accidents, an increase of two from the previous year.
