Upon the news breaking that incumbent President Barack Obama had won the state of Ohio during Tuesday’s election, thus securing his re-election, Obama gained himself another new title - most retweeted ever.
The record-breaking tweet went out on Tuesday from the @BarackObama account which stated simply “Four more years.” accompanied by a picture of him and his wife Michelle Obama embracing. At time of publication, the tweet has received a massive 691,348 retweets and growing.
The number of retweets far surpasses previous record holder Justin Bieber, who brought in the previous record of around 223,000 retweets, according to The Washington Post.
Twitter confirmed in a blog post that as new organizations began calling the election in Obama’s favor, the tweets-per-minute peaked at an astounding 327,452, by far the highest of the duration of the election.
Another Obama Tweet that read, “We're all in this together. That's how we campaigned, and that's who we are. Thank you. -bo,” clocked in a similarly impressive 159,271 retweets. An earlier tweet read “This happened because of you. Thank you,” which gained 241,887 retweets.
