50,000 to emigrate from Ireland in 2011

The Economic and Social Research Institute has estimated that 50,000 people will emigrate from Ireland in 2011. They also calculate that 25,000 jobs will be lost but that the economy will grow by 1.5 percent with exports increasing by six percent.

They estimate that employment in Ireland will average at 13.5 percent this year but that is will drop slightly in 2012 to 13 percent.

The number of people emigrating (50,000 in 2011) is compared to the 44,000 people who left Ireland at the height of the 1980s emigration.

ankie: Yes, you are right. Harsh feelings in a hard situation led to harsh words. Sorry. @celtic's first questions about not knowing the difference between working in London or Dublin shocked me! ........ The second part, as I suspect you realise, is a reference to the country going 'down the pan' and the use of hard won qualifications and once proudly held documents connecting them to it, might prove only useful to wipe away any residue from their scathalogical evacuation as they try to overcome their bitter disappointment in the country they once put their faith and trust in, and which so cynically abused their Aspirations. I will gladly respond to your thoughtful ‘touch on the Tiller’ and endeavour to avoid the need for the need for you to do so again. Slainte!

THE BIG DEAL IS: (ASSUMING YOU KNOW THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT COUNTRIES) ONE REPRESENTS HAVING TO FLEE IN TERROR FROM YOUR FAILED STATE HOMELAND - THE OTHER IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE FRIENDLY WELCOME FROM THE WONDERFUL COUNTRY NEXT DOOR. As for subsidies: Emigrants should always remember TO bring their Certificates of irishwhatever and their passports -just in case they ever run out of toilet paper!

I don't see what the big problem is. For every one of these Irish who leave, a Russian, Indian, Paki, African or whatever will arrive. It's called ethnosuicide, and the Irish did it to themselves.
