Why Chris Christie bear hug will deliver White House to Barack Obama -- Did New Jersey governor deliberately snub Mitt Romney after VP diss?

Chris Christie and Barack Obama speak during the President's visit to Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey |
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s bear hug embrace of Barack Obama during Hurricane Sandy will deliver the White House again to Barack Obama, I believe.
Since he did so the polls have moved perceptively to
Obama, which should allow him to eke out a 51 per cent to 49 per cent victory in the popular vote I predict.
It was an extraordinary moment and a dagger aimed at the heart of
Republican contender Mitt Romney who had passed
Christie over for the Vice President slot after originally indicating he was choosing him as Politico.com revealed.
(There is no love lost between the two Republicans, they angrily disputed why
Christie was not on the stage at a Romney rally in neighboring Pennsylvania on election eve.)
Christie saw himself on the sidelines and knew a victory for Romney essentially sidelined him for a possible eight years. He likely made a calculation that
Obama would be re-elected.
Facing probable political oblivion,
Christie acted.
Read more on the US Presidential Election here Embracing
Obama ensured his re-election in New Jersey also with
Obama hardly likely to champion a Democratic opponent. It also ensured that moderate Democrats will be naturally drawn to supporting him when he runs for re-election.
It was a lifeline to
Obama. Barack Obama was in a desperate fight to the death last week and in a dead heat at best when the hurricane struck.
Americans rally to the president in a crisis and
Obama has the Commander-in-Chief down to an art form.
But the
Christie embrace was the icing on the cake. Americans yearn for the type of cross community politics that sees politicians from opposite sides work together.
There are few more popular figures than the larger-than-life
Christie who has never met a doughnut stand he didn’t like and calls a spade a spade.
When he appeared all day with
Obama it sent a clear message to Americans that despite the attempt to demonize
Obama by the GOP,
Christie was willing to work with him.
The polls that had been in a permanent freeze before Sandy began to tick back in
Obama’s direction and he goes into Election Day with polls clearly moving in his direction.
In a very uncertain year, that last tilt in the polls will, I think, put
Obama over the top. The October/November surprise in the end proved to be of all things a hurricane and a 350 pound governor from the opposite party feeling the love for the president.
That’s politics. Who wudda thunk it?

Shuvonn, I thought I had made my position very clear. I suppose a little "Apology Accepted" would be out of the question? Éamonn.
seanomelb | Nov 07, 2012, 06:35 PM EST
Shuvonn my father was in charge of NaFianna in the thirties proud of you.
shuvonn | Nov 07, 2012, 05:29 PM EST
Having lived in Dublin? I am a Dub born and bred. Was a member of NaFianna, went to school in Manor Street the sisters of no Mercy. I just get a little tired of the competition between DNS and DSS, there seems to be a judgement at times, and frankly I have no time for such nonsense. And, YES Christy knew what side his bread was buttered upon when he did that...
EamonnDublin | Nov 07, 2012, 03:50 PM EST
"Shuvonn" - I very obviously have to be extremely careful here, so I will attempt to be brief, to the point and clear. Firstly, I apologise without any equivocation for anything I said which upset, annoyed, insulted or hurt you in any way. Now, what I wrote, in my estimation and in my mind when I wrote it, was IRONY. I understand that Americans do not "do" irony, but I considered that having lived in Dublin you might get it. I will admit that, as I was writing it, I realised that it was at least very near the mark - and even probably going well past it. I even hesitated to press the "send" but I continued regardless. I am a VERY proud Northsider, having lived in Glasnevin until I was 15. I thought I made that clear to you. When I returned to Dublin after an absence of 21 years, I couldn't care less which side of the city I lived in - there are good, bad and indifferent parts on both sides. It so happens that we saw a house on the South side and bought it. My "offer" of my phone number and address and the suggestion that you "come up and see me sometime" (Mae West) was intended to be humorous, as was my reference to "bigfatuglyones" - as I thought might be conveyed by using the one word. I mis-spelled "misogynist" obviously intentionally in order to convey humour. Obviously, you and I do not have the same sense of humour, or appreciation of irony. Having said that, I again apologise unconditionally. Enough said? Best Wishes, Éamonn.

Christy may well have gotten the message from the student of Chicago-style politics: "You do want prompt Federal help for NJ, don't you?" (Sorry to break in on Shuvonn & Eamon's tete-tete)
shuvonn | Nov 07, 2012, 12:27 PM EST
so delira and excira that you have to slag off DNS accent? Considering that I have both elderly parents living in Dublin,my mother being on oxygen 16 hours a day and I come from a large family, over half of whom still live in Dublin, and my focus is family when I visit ( three weeks there in August and Amsterday while I was at it for a weekend) I would not waste one second of my time looking someone such as yourself up. Now there is slagging and slaggin and I am quite dab hand at it myself, however you seem to be a little bit TOO Much in touch with your inner bitch for my comfort. I had to be quick off the draw with 5 brothers and 4 sisters :-) And this has nothing to do with what I look like, I am most certainly not hard to look at (Irish women do not take compliments well anyway) and shallow people who base what a person looks like on the outside only, project their own inadaquecies onto others, and do nothing for me on so many levels. So spare me your phone number, address, or any other details, I have family, friends and other relatives that would be so much more worthy of my time and energy. Get used to 4 more years of Obama, Is feidir linn ARIS :-)
EamonnDublin | Nov 07, 2012, 09:33 AM EST
Hi Shuvover, Totally delira an' excira to see you have a SECOND home in D6. If you visit three times a year, that means it will be a max of four months (work it out - it's not too difficult if you did a Masters in algebra) before you are back again. So, with all we have in common, come up and see me sometime. Oh, wait a second, what do you LOOK like? You see, I'm a fifty per cent Miss-o-gin-issed, in that I don't like the bigfatuglyones, only the REALLY pretty ones. Now, does that get your batgun triggered up? Oops, is THAT in poor taste as well? If it is, I'm so sorry, it's a sort of "an Irish thing". It's called "slagging" and it means insulting somebody that you really like and you know they have the inner confidence to take it. With much love, adoration and expectation. Éamonn (address and phone number to follow - I'm SURE you can't wait). xxx
shuvonn | Nov 07, 2012, 09:21 AM EST
You may be calling it a joke, but it was really in poor taste and made you look like the sore loser you have appeared to be from some of your comments :-) I can assure you I am far from gun toting( I disagree with the lax gun laws in the US and the NRA) far from minimally brained ( you seem to think ALL women are) never saw a bat in my life, and since James Joyce's mother never knew me your comment is a little childish at best. Now let me assure you the minimaly brain-gifted, gun-totin,bat shootin, half-baked, Obama-supporting peanut would be more likely to be a republican and if you looked at the map of who voted for Romney, it was all the red neck states :-) And sure Eamonn, I was only takin the piss here about you being a sore loser, some of you cannot take a joke at all, at all..... P.S. Love my second home in D6, visit it three times a year on average but prefer DNS, just got a bargain and HAD to take it :-)
EamonnDublin | Nov 07, 2012, 09:19 AM EST
Four more Ears! Four more Ears! Four more Ears! Actually, reading back in order to check the difficult spellings, I realise that one has only to move ONE letter in "ears" in order to have a potentially suitable anagram. America, you have made your decision. Good Luck!!! Éamonn, Dublin.
EamonnDublin | Nov 07, 2012, 09:11 AM EST
Now now, "Shuvonn"! I would think that anyone who is NOT a "big eejit" would realise my comment was a JOKE. J-O-K-E, JOKE!! How any person - other than the minimally brain-gifted, gun-totin', bat-shootin', half-baked, Obama-supporting peanut - would take my remark for what it is and ignore it. As James Joyce's mother used to say, "Shure, some eejits will pick up anything the wrong way - especially that one Shuvonn". Éamonn, In the CraicFactory, Dublin Southside.
shuvonn | Nov 07, 2012, 08:20 AM EST
No one likes a SORE loser Eamonn, the people have voted and spoken, now suck it up ya big eejit
EamonnDublin | Nov 07, 2012, 07:11 AM EST
IMPEACH OBAMA!! Éamonn, Dublin.
EamonnDublin | Nov 07, 2012, 06:06 AM EST
"Susan725" - I've moved you up a notch. My wife had a County Cork father, born in (New York!), so I just KNEW there was something pulling we two together!! And the Jesuits!! All the best in your Masters - and enjoy it all along the way. You're here but just the once. Éamonn.
Frosty38 | Nov 06, 2012, 09:20 PM EST
He did not take NJ
susan724 | Nov 06, 2012, 07:03 PM EST
shuvonn - These total duffuses who make such insensitive and ignorant remarks have no clue whatsoever. A man cen be raped, which is an atrocious, heinous, act in itself for ANY human being to suffer. But, a man cannot get pregnant. How dare any man promote such a thing!I want a leader, not a preacher! I am waiting for the gutsy newsperson to ask any moron who believes this - what if your wife/daughter became pregnant by a rapist? These jerks never think it will happen to THEIR families and if it isn't THEIR family member they do not care.!
shuvonn | Nov 06, 2012, 06:34 PM EST
Susan how about the eejit who said it was God's WILL if a woman got pregnant when raped? Looks like 47% is a pretty important number to Romney.....wonder WHY?
seanomelb | Nov 06, 2012, 06:09 PM EST
Oops! American/Kenyan.
seanomelb | Nov 06, 2012, 06:07 PM EST
Eamonn me old sage you're on the wrong side of history and by 2pm (Aus) we will have four more years. I would not treat a cat any differently to how I would treat Romney. May the best afro American win.
susan724 | Nov 06, 2012, 05:47 PM EST
lokionline - Yes Romney's state was 47th in job creation when he was Governor in Massachusetts. Looks like Brown will be defeated by Warren there!- YES!!!!
susan724 | Nov 06, 2012, 05:43 PM EST
All of you folks who are against abortion, you know what they say here in America,anti-abortionists "love the fetus, hate the child." Romney and Ryan are anti-abortionists, but they will overturn the first national health care program in the U.S. which is saving the lives of children. I wonder if they would insist that their wives and daughters bear the child of someone who raped them! FOOLS!
susan724 | Nov 06, 2012, 05:36 PM EST
DEamonnDublin - I agree, the most intelligent people on this earth are the funniest - and to me, these are the Jews. Although the Irish wit can be very funny, and amusing. I see you were Jesuit educated, do 'ya see my critical thinking" in my perceptions? I have to say, Deamonn me lad, that I am now getting a Jesuit education in seeking my Master's Degree, therefore, we do have some "common ground." I also come from County Cork stock, some Irish common ground.
shuvonn | Nov 06, 2012, 05:34 PM EST
DSS is no better than DNS but some think it is:-)
EamonnDublin | Nov 06, 2012, 05:17 PM EST
Hi Lokonline and SeanO. Looks like wewill be on here all night. Lokionline, I saw your last message only after I had responded to your penultimate one. A good coincidence that Sean has come on. Yes, I lived in Glasnevin and went to Saint Vincent's there, went to England in 1958 and went to the Jesuits there - in Leeds, Yorkshire, came back in 1980 and for no reason other than we saw a house we liked we settled on the southside. Being so long away, one has really no "connections" when one comes home. Sean has gone a bit wild obviously since he went away - he's a lefty, liberal, cat-swingin' Obama supporter now. You'll get no sense outta him any more. Best to you both, keep in touch. Hey, Sean, Romney by 4.00 a.m Irish time (11.00 pm Eastern). And whatever in Melbourne - 2.00pm on Wednesday? Éamonn.
seanomelb | Nov 06, 2012, 05:07 PM EST
Christie is a shrewd politician and was well aware of the consequences of his actions. One only has to see his interview with Doocy when he(Doocy)tried to pigeon hole Christie and came off second best.Lokionline Eamonn and I were at school in Glasnevin he lived on the north side at that time.
EamonnDublin | Nov 06, 2012, 05:03 PM EST
Hi Lokionline! No offence taken whatsoever! Just wondering how you got the vibes! I live in Terenure, beside Terenure College, so, as you know, I am close to Rathmines and Dundrum. Dundrum has a wonderful shopping centre now, by far the best in Ireland - even won Best in Europe a few years ago. I lived in England for 21 years (went when I was 15, with my parents)and returned to Dublin in 1980 with my wife and two children. Very happy, Thank God! Whereabouts are you? There's another chap on here, "Seanomelb", who went to the same Dublin school as myself! Small world. Keep in touch. Best Wishes, Éamonn.
lokionline | Nov 06, 2012, 04:50 PM EST
Eamonn, your aside about Dublin 4 made me smile. My school was in Ballsbridge right beside Lansdowne Road stadium and the railway there. I've noticed that Dublin 4 has become a metaphor for "snobbishness". I find that very amusing.
lokionline | Nov 06, 2012, 04:40 PM EST
shuvonn makes a good point. I have wondered why Romney's record in Mass. has not figured more prominently in this campaign. He was and is not very popular there.
lokionline | Nov 06, 2012, 04:27 PM EST
Eamonn, don't take offence. I was merely curious. I lived in Rathmines and Dundrum in the 50s and 60s. Your manner reminded me of many of the friends and acquaintances I knew from there.
shuvonn | Nov 06, 2012, 04:20 PM EST
That is what bi-partisanship is supposed to be about, Romney CLAIMS he is yet voted 800 times against co-operation while governer of Mass...
EamonnDublin | Nov 06, 2012, 04:11 PM EST
"Lokionline" - Now, it might just be me, but I can't figure out why you say that? As it happens, yes, correct. Elucidate, please. Éamonn, Southside, Dublin (but not 4)
conorsmom | Nov 06, 2012, 04:04 PM EST
Irishboy 1952- You call the President a "Murderer"- You are part of the inside circle of the White House? You know what goes on inside the Presidents heart and head? Also, you know "hundreds" of Dems voting for Romney? As a fellow Jersian, you are so far off base if it insulting to everyone else in the state.
lokionline | Nov 06, 2012, 03:55 PM EST
Eamonn... do you really live in Dublin? If you do it must somewhere on the south side.
lokionline | Nov 06, 2012, 03:50 PM EST
This was very smart politics and very smart governing from Christie. My previous reservations about him have been mollified enormously. If he can stop acting like a New Jersey "punk" in public he has a real chance now of National office.
EamonnDublin | Nov 06, 2012, 03:50 PM EST
"Susan723.25" - As Aristotle himself said, "A sense of humour is the BEST intelligence, it enables one to make a make a man laugh as you defeat his every move - therefore, everyone's a winner, even one's defeated foe, the loser". Now, my DEAR Sue, START LAUGHING! Ah go ON! It doesn't hurt. Honestly! Éamonn, Dublin.
merefalow | Nov 06, 2012, 03:35 PM EST
great, honest feelings, not snake oil flip flop steer any way the prevailing winds blow, good man.
susan724 | Nov 06, 2012, 02:53 PM EST
DEamonnDublin - Ahhhhh, but I do have a sense of humor - precisely why I read you opinions, albeit not intelligent - though humorous...
shuvonn | Nov 06, 2012, 02:47 PM EST
I really am amazed that anyone could vote for a presidential hopeful who shows such distain for nearly half of the population of the US who are retired people vets, etc... its too late in the season for flip flops. He was for Obamacare before he was against it. He claimed he'd be BI-partisan but his voting record in Mass proves that supposed record he now touts in HIS campaign for *CHANGE* he voted 800 plus times against Democrats in Mass. His second fiddle lied when confronted by his blasting of Stimulus Funding while begging for it at least 3 times for his state. If this disaster has struck IF Romney was in, the states affected would have been responsible for all of the costs, what a DISASTER!
EamonnDublin | Nov 06, 2012, 02:39 PM EST
"Parents" - Love you too, Baby!! Éamonn, Dublin.
Parents | Nov 06, 2012, 02:34 PM EST
If Romney gets in - then that 47% he spoke of at the 50,000 ea rally with complete disdain will be rising and the pockets of his multi-millionaire cronies will be full. Why are all the spokespeople for the Romney group loud and rude and shout over anyone else like he did in the first debate. He was rude and arrogant and quite sickening.
EamonnDublin | Nov 06, 2012, 01:50 PM EST
But, m'Darling "Susan723.5" you ARE reading my opinions! So they MUST be intelligent, if you read what you said correctly. BTW, you don't appear to have the SLIGHTEST sense of humour, which is a bit sad. If Obama gets in again, you'll NEED a sense of humour. Now, smile for the camera - there's a good girl! Éamonn, Dublin.
Parents | Nov 06, 2012, 01:39 PM EST
irishboy 1952 you are nothing short of scary hateful and cynical
susan724 | Nov 06, 2012, 01:36 PM EST
Nicomax, I don't think Christie would have chosen the VP candidacy with Mitt- Didn't they offer it to him and he turned it down? I think behind closed doors, he did and Ryan was second fiddle(so appropriate for this idiot). Also, Christie turned down Mitt to appear with him at a rally only 20 minutes away from where Mitt was holding it. Christie is in trouble in NJ and wants to get re-elected and he knows aligning himself with Mittens won't do it. Just like no Republicans will align themselves with Bush and cronies, they're toxic!
Parents | Nov 06, 2012, 01:32 PM EST
jetsnoone - yes for sure I just mean it was yet another demonstration - he really does care and I think it's great they are working tog. "a baby killer" - how dare you and are you and the other cult people speaking for god or just your own cult? He is leaving it up to those involved, it's their choice and it is not yours for sure and not Mitt Romney's. This cultish thing is making me sick...do as you wish but do not force your views on others.
susan724 | Nov 06, 2012, 01:27 PM EST
EamonnDublin - I only read those opinions that are intelligent and frankly, m'dear, yours are not. As far as your mojo, it appears that someone threw water on yours years ago.
patriciabruhn | Nov 06, 2012, 01:02 PM EST
The hug was not about republican or democrat, it was about a bad storm & it's path of destruction. THis is why we are so divided, the media writes their opinion about a hug and turns it into a political move?? The President did his job and showed up to see first hand what was happening and to see what was needed for the people. nothing more nothing less.
Nicomax | Nov 06, 2012, 12:55 PM EST
CC the Gov. is smarter than he looks. After two terms by Mitt, nobody would even remember who CC was. Many new pols will have stepped onto the stage, both GOP and Dems- young, trim and feisty ones- CC would be yesterdays news. Plus I doubt CC likes Mitt much at all, and in hind sight Mitt should have selected CC as VP, who when the storm hit would have taken an unusual but prominent role for a VP candidate. Two times in a row the GOP goofs on the VP selection.
Irishboy1952 | Nov 06, 2012, 12:47 PM EST
As a Democrat, of Irish Decent, who lives in New Jersey! I know hundreds of Dem's, who are voting for Romney/Ryan. Do you actually think that the Murder will win??? He allow Four Americans to die, watched the event, then went to bed and in the morning flew to Vegas... Then he showed up for a photo-opt, Christie show some love, to get fed funds and then he left and took FEMA with him. No Gas, No Heat, No Fresh Water, for us. Your a idiot to think the Murder will win, not even to mention his buddy, that kill our soldiers in Fort Hood, Texas... You know Maj Hussian, his buddy. Man are you lost...

hollabackgurl | Nov 06, 2012, 12:28 PM EST
It's the GOP's 19 century policies, not a 21 century storm, that sunk Romney.
PhlutiePhan | Nov 06, 2012, 12:04 PM EST
@The Commentator: Oblunder is a Marxist with a strong Islamic affinity because of his father and stepfather. The basis of both these philosophies is the "big lie". Speaking of the big lie, Christie is out there maneuvering for his own future political success. As stated, there is a good chance that his foolish vanity was enough to sell out the presidency. That is good to know for my future vote against him.
FastEddy | Nov 06, 2012, 11:45 AM EST
New Jersey will turn Red State today ... G'ment failing to deliver storm support. As they say in France, Oh Bummaire'
FastEddy | Nov 06, 2012, 11:45 AM EST
Obama tried to work with the Republicans in Washington, but the Republicans refused and publicly stated their intention is to prevent Obama from being elected in 2012. Fortunately the Republicans at the state level have their residents best interests at the forefront of their agenda and do cooperate with Obama. Look at Michigan and the auto industry with a Republican governor and the cooperation he got from Obama. It definitely is the federal Republicans who refuse to work with Obama, not Obama who won't work with the Republicans. VOTE OBAMA AND DEMOCRATS IN ALL RACES.
Nicoletta | Nov 06, 2012, 11:45 AM EST
Totally agree with you Mr O'Dowd. Christie might live to regret his actions. “Revenge, at first though sweet, Bitter ere long back on itself recoils.”
EamonnDublin | Nov 06, 2012, 11:41 AM EST
"Susan724" - One should not read only those opinions with which one agrees. If one does so, one never gets the benefit of sometimes learning things one does not know, or, indeed, of having one's mind changed by a convincing argument. In addition, one should also keep up to date with ALL opinions. Now, as far as my 'mojo' is concerned, it is always fired up and ready to go - why don't you come up and see me sometime, m'dear? Perhaps when you are in Dublin for "The Gatherin'"? Come on Baby, Light my Fire!! Éamonn, Dublin.
susan724 | Nov 06, 2012, 10:56 AM EST
jetsnoone, is it blessed Father or blessed Sister jetsnoone (or both)? Don't get your panties in a wad. Funny how you talk about judgment. People like you, religious extremists (like the Taliban) are the ones who have the most to hide, like HYPOCRISY. Go to church and leave the rest of us out of your phony moralizing.
shuvonn | Nov 06, 2012, 10:53 AM EST
IF Christie left his state at this time, that would have caused complaints also. Romney wants to get rid of FEMA and have it up to the individual states. The very people who are complaining that they do NOT want a socialist government now want to be looked after in the wake of Sandy, you cannot have it both ways. And what with voter fraud in places in Az, where forms were sent out in Spanish, claiming the election was Nov 8th. In TN democrats were sent away and told they were not on the register. Voters in FLA were sent letters questioning their right to vote, billboards in poor hispanic areas aimed to intimidate and all of these cases were against areas with higher records of registered democrats or poorer areas, HOW DARE republicans try to con their way to the white house.
susan724 | Nov 06, 2012, 10:45 AM EST
EamonnDublin- Then why do you read his articles? Sounds like you read the daily. There is some pay back - maybe Dowd's insights are the only things in life that get your "mojo" fired up?

Seafoid is seafoid amhain!! Ce ata ina uachtaran na Stait Aontaithe? Obama! Ce ata in ann ag lorg cuidiu agus tacaiocht on FEMA ar shon stait ar bith? Obama, ar ndoigh! Ce a labhroidh Christie le ar shon Nua Gheirsi le haghaidh conamh a fhail? Obama! Dar liom go bhfuil Chris Christie i mbun a intinn fein. Ag votail ar shon Romney agus ag lorg conamh o uachtaran na Stait Aontaithe. Sheer nonsense! Who is the president of the USA? Obama! Who can seek assistence and support for any states? Obama, of course! Who will Christie talk to on behalf of New Jersey to obtain assistence? Obama! It seems to me that Christie is in charge of his own mind. Voting for Romney while seeking assistence from the president of the USA. And Christie is just showing proper gratitude for the assistence to his state which is the hardest hit of any in the MidAtlantic region. As for NY State, most of its damage was to NY City and the most of the rest of the large state of NY State is somewhat OK compared to the area of devastation of small state New Jersey. And Romney wanting to get rid of or wanting to lessen FEMA would do New Jersey no favors at all in the case of such a huge disaster all along the coast of a small state. Christie has every right to show his gratitude to Obama if he wants to. The Romney people are free to make what they will of Christie not showing up for this Romney event. Christie is right to stay in his state and do what he is doing. Minding the people of his state New Jersey and the dire straits they and their communities are in. Common sense would inform the Romney folk etc that this is a hugely swamped governor with no time for anything else but working day and night on getting disaster relief and help to the people of his state as much and as fast as he can.
shuvonn | Nov 06, 2012, 10:28 AM EST
jetsnoone, you mean like Ryan being critical of stimulus funds while getting them very funds for his state? You mean like you want to embroil church and state again? Listen I do hate to have to break it to ya but if you are a male and any woman you shagged took the pill, used a condom then you are only a hypocrite if you wanna talk about a woman's right to choose. Ain't no one here not living in a glass house. How much funds would NJ have gotten if Romney was in power as he plans to put Fema out of business and leave it to individual states, you can bet your arse Ryan would be begging for funds for his own state again if that was the case. Those who act holier than thou makes me ill.....
patrickesq | Nov 06, 2012, 10:28 AM EST
The Republican Party has raised the level of political fighting to a new nasty level in their quest to retake the White House. In their zeal to unseat the President Republicans shunned him and avoided any signs of cordiality. Remember the price poor Governor Charlie Crist paid for his warm greeting of the President in FL. So the humanity of an embrace by a heavy weight political foe did carry a big message to voters that civility and cooperation are very welcome from our leaders and they may very well be rewarded in the polling booths.

Parents: What kind of person Obama is???Ah, you've had four years to figure this out: he is a baby killing supporter of abortion (even late term abortion.) Flying in, hugging the fat guy, writing a check, won't cut it with God on judgement day.

That's just ridiculous. People with an IQ above Zero vote for a candidate on the basis of his record, policies, and his agenda for the future, not on the basis of whether his/her governor said some complimentary words and gave a hug to a political opponent during an emotional and stressful time when all Americans should be united in concern for the welfare of their suffering fellow Americans, regardless of political differences.

I think it shows that when needed you work with the other side that is what america is supposed to be about. Yes this terrible storm showed Obama for the man he is and I have no doubt he does feel for these ppl, don't think anyone would get the same reaction with Romney. Tood for Chrstie and good for Obama and let's hope it's good for those people who need a lot of help.

Another STUPID article, dredged up from the well of stupid articles in Niall O'Dowd's almost totally dried up desert. If what Niall says is correct - that Christie's HUG will make enough American voters change their minds and vote for Obama - then America must be packed with simple idiots. I do not believe America is packed with simple idiots, therefore I consider Niall's article to be not only insulting to voters but also amateurish in its content. So, no change there, what? Éamonn, Dublin.

I don't think Christie did it on purpose but rather as an emotional response to the devestation he saw... but for a man who wishes to be a leader, an emotional reaction is wrong. Shows weakness. Another reason for Christie's kissing up to Obama is that he knows that this is one President who plays politics with FEMA money, and in order to get his state's fair share, Christie figured it's good to kiss a little butt if that's what it would take. Again, bad for Christie in the long run, as most people realize that is NOT Obama's money but the money of America's citizens...
