I think it is time to give it a rest lads.
I was the only journalist present when Bloomberg made his remarks. I think we have made our point.
Bloomberg has apologized and no doubt learned his lesson. That should really be enough.
And another thing, he has been the best mayor for the Irish in a very long time on many issues.
He is the most prominent politician in America supporting comprehensive immigration reform which might afford our undocumented some day to become legal.
Through his business, Bloomberg News, he has invested in both the Northern Ireland economy and the Republic of Ireland economy, badly needed at this stage.
He has made many trips to Ireland to helped kick start investment, and has provided valuable advice for many Irish business owners.
He supports the rights of marginalized Irish groups to march in the St.Patrick's Day parade and has marched in the alternative Queens one every year.
His administration has been immediately responsive on Irish issues such as the peace process when help was needed.
I don't think we can expect much more.
He screwed up, he apologized, time to move on.
Let's not use this incident any more for cheap publicity stunts.
We and he are better than that.

Thats the problem here!! Something dirty gets said..after a few days, the person guilty of speaking his true thoughts gets off, Niall in general I think your a terrific writer BUT don't expose a story about your OWN kind,an just be happy YOU got the scoop and than say it's run it's course..without any repurcussions,I live in the City, I see and speak to people everyday and hear all kinds of things about him..I do give you credit for standing up for yourself with these postings.

Why is it OK for Mayor Jewberg and Sen.Schumer to try and use the Moynihan Station project as a means of tampering with Postmaster General Farleys Post Office...not only has he insulted us....the JEWS are trying to rewrite our history and dictate our heros?
Searlit | Feb 14, 2011, 09:53 PM EST
I think the point has been made.

Looks ta me like Niall got a rap on the knuckles from Bloomberg’s office minions. There was a song out one time that said it another way... what was it called?... It went, erm... lemme think.. Oh yeah, it went... “What’s da matter you??? ...Hey!!! Gotta no respect??? ... Hey!! Shaddupa Ya Face!” Anybody in ICentral’s Office looking at Niall’s knuckles these days? Or does he... whoooo-heoooh!... have a black eye?

Amen to that. Stereotypes live long after their reason for existing might end. But Ireland still has the greatest Pubs in the world. If you go to San Francisco, visit The Irish Bank and when in San Clemente, Ca., visit Molly Blooms on South El Camino Real. Diarmuid Noone is the proprietor of Mollys'...a Sligo kid where his father owned a Pub. Wonderful family experience at Mollys.

actually Mike I did defend Ronan Tynan and received a nice note from him
MikeRock | Feb 14, 2011, 02:18 PM EST
Did you step up to the plate when Ronan Tynan got the heave ho? Of course not!
snakehips | Feb 14, 2011, 01:20 PM EST
I agree Niall, when someone realizes that their error was worth an apology, we should note it and move on.

Much ado about nothing!

LOL, 21st century screw ups can drag on for weeks, well after the time they are "a story". Niall 1st reported it and now is saying the point was made and an apology made let's move on. If anyone doubts the number of shallow thinkers and those with a chip on their shoulder in this world they need only read blogs such as these- wanting to drag people and events in completely unrelated to anything reported here concerning this story. If you concerns were legitimate news or enough people cared you'd not have to be trying to connect dots that just don't have any connection.

If we are going to over-react when a friendly person says something fairly innocuous, then how will people ever be able to tell we are genuine, when someone not-so-friendly says something we are really upset about? In my view this should never have been a story in the first place. Please Lord, let this be the end of it.
Niall O'Dowd | Feb 14, 2011, 12:07 PM EST
taho you are correct it was on my blog which is about opinion but i did report the facts of the story
nicgearailt | Feb 14, 2011, 11:45 AM EST
I agree that it has run it's course... it's nice to hear that he has been responsible for a lot of good things ... he is basically a good person...and like all of us we need to think before we speak..because it's smart..
Taho1221 | Feb 14, 2011, 11:19 AM EST
My bad......the comment about Cowen in Cork wasnt from Niall but from Danny Boy.
Taho1221 | Feb 14, 2011, 11:02 AM EST
You didnt just report the story. A report would be in the third person. You always seem to interject yourself into the story......you were the first to report, you were the only journalist there, you are on the board, you were the only journalist in Cork to listen to Cowen......and the list goes on. I agree, report the story and leave yourself out.
srdools | Feb 14, 2011, 10:52 AM EST
I think that this does not pass the smell test.
Niall O'Dowd | Feb 14, 2011, 10:51 AM EST
I reported a story, and now I think that story has run its course, no more no less. Anti-semitic remarks will not be tolerated on this forum
pounder | Feb 14, 2011, 10:24 AM EST
RONAN TYNAN APOLOGIZED TO THE JEWS,AND WAS BANISHED TO HELL. WHY HASN'T THIS JEW BEEN SO TREATED.OH,WAIT,NOW I GET IT.
ohrightyeah | Feb 14, 2011, 10:10 AM EST
I agree with Taho. If you were the only journalist there, then you are directly responsible for the story going beyond that room. The only reason it made headlines at all is that you threw a hissy fit over it in the first place. Now you have a cheek to be criticizing others for publicity stunts. From what I read in the Post, the bar owners were talking about phone calls they got from around the world, and one of them even defended Bloomberg. There wouldn't have been a story without you, so a bit much to be trying to gain the high moral ground now.
Woodkern | Feb 14, 2011, 09:52 AM EST
True enough. Bloomberg has done things much worse than that.
jimmybb | Feb 14, 2011, 09:25 AM EST
b.tw. tommy tiernan and ronan tynan apologised profusely but it didnt do any good
jimmybb | Feb 14, 2011, 09:22 AM EST
no we shouldnt let it lie tommy tiernan and ronan tynan have been chastised and orstracised by the jewish media both their careers have suffered because of little jokes it seems one cant make a jewish joke but irish jokes are fine as our ability to laugh at ourselves is well known so we dont get offended easily but god forbid anyone makes a jewish joke of comment do u really think he would have made a black or hispanic joke an get away with it
Taho1221 | Feb 14, 2011, 09:15 AM EST
You cant have it both ways, Niall. You want to be the 'first to report' and then the one to say 'no more, lets move on' Youve obviously realized that by bashing Bloomberg, you wont be 'the only journalist present' any longer so youve reversed course. Typical Niall O'Dowd, looking out for your own agenda and reversing course when it suits your needs.
