A group of Irish bar owners held a press conference in New York on Sunday complaining about Mayor Bloomberg's Irish remarks, first reported here.

I think it is time to give it a rest lads.

I was the only journalist present when Bloomberg made his remarks. I think we have made our point.

Bloomberg has apologized and no doubt learned his lesson. That should really be enough.

And another thing, he has been the best mayor for the Irish in a very long time on many issues.

He is the most prominent politician in America supporting comprehensive immigration reform which might afford our undocumented some day to become legal.

Through his business, Bloomberg News, he has invested in both the Northern Ireland economy and the Republic of Ireland economy, badly needed at this stage.

He has made many trips to Ireland to helped kick start investment, and has provided valuable advice for many Irish business owners.

He supports the rights of marginalized Irish groups to march in the St.Patrick's Day parade and has marched in the alternative Queens one every year.

His administration has been immediately responsive on Irish issues such as the peace process when help was needed.

I don't think we can expect much more.

He screwed up, he apologized, time to move on.

Let's not use this incident any more for cheap publicity stunts.

We and he are better than that.

" JACERSAGAIN "...YOU TOOK THE WORDS right OUTTA MY MOUTH..ERRR FINGERS !!
Thats the problem here!! Something dirty gets said..after a few days, the person guilty of speaking his true thoughts gets off, Niall in general I think your a terrific writer BUT don't expose a story about your OWN kind,an just be happy YOU got the scoop and than say it's run it's course..without any repurcussions,I live in the City, I see and speak to people everyday and hear all kinds of things about him..I do give you credit for standing up for yourself with these postings.
Why is it OK for Mayor Jewberg and Sen.Schumer to try and use the Moynihan Station project as a means of tampering with Postmaster General Farleys Post Office...not only has he insulted us....the JEWS are trying to rewrite our history and dictate our heros?
I think the point has been made.
Looks ta me like Niall got a rap on the knuckles from Bloomberg’s office minions. There was a song out one time that said it another way... what was it called?... It went, erm... lemme think.. Oh yeah, it went... “What’s da matter you??? ...Hey!!! Gotta no respect??? ... Hey!! Shaddupa Ya Face!” Anybody in ICentral’s Office looking at Niall’s knuckles these days? Or does he... whoooo-heoooh!... have a black eye?
Amen to that. Stereotypes live long after their reason for existing might end. But Ireland still has the greatest Pubs in the world. If you go to San Francisco, visit The Irish Bank and when in San Clemente, Ca., visit Molly Blooms on South El Camino Real. Diarmuid Noone is the proprietor of Mollys'...a Sligo kid where his father owned a Pub. Wonderful family experience at Mollys.
actually Mike I did defend Ronan Tynan and received a nice note from him
Did you step up to the plate when Ronan Tynan got the heave ho? Of course not!
I agree Niall, when someone realizes that their error was worth an apology, we should note it and move on.
Much ado about nothing!
LOL, 21st century screw ups can drag on for weeks, well after the time they are "a story". Niall 1st reported it and now is saying the point was made and an apology made let's move on. If anyone doubts the number of shallow thinkers and those with a chip on their shoulder in this world they need only read blogs such as these- wanting to drag people and events in completely unrelated to anything reported here concerning this story. If you concerns were legitimate news or enough people cared you'd not have to be trying to connect dots that just don't have any connection.
If we are going to over-react when a friendly person says something fairly innocuous, then how will people ever be able to tell we are genuine, when someone not-so-friendly says something we are really upset about? In my view this should never have been a story in the first place. Please Lord, let this be the end of it.
taho you are correct it was on my blog which is about opinion but i did report the facts of the story
I agree that it has run it's course... it's nice to hear that he has been responsible for a lot of good things ... he is basically a good person...and like all of us we need to think before we speak..because it's smart..
My bad......the comment about Cowen in Cork wasnt from Niall but from Danny Boy.
