Why do I think that someday soon we will be reading about the further mental problems of Sinead O'Connor?
She's a woman who admitted to trying to commit suicide on her 33rd birthday and to being bi-polar.
Her latest escape, getting married for the fourth time and divorced 16 days later, is surely a sign of a mental instability that is only getting worse.
While she is fair game for the media and actively encourages the coverage, particularly through her blog, you have to wonder, at one point the train wreck becomes evident even to the worst tabloid reporter?
Like Lindsay Lohan, Sinead O'Connor is a disturbed woman who needs psychiatric care, not more headlines. She is beginning to resemble Charlie Sheen with his very public breakdown.

She has often talked about the horrific abuse she sustained as a child from her own mother, and there is no question she had a very sad upbringing.
There is no questioning her talent and her beautiful voice, which may yet win an Oscar next year for her song from the movie Albert Nobbs.
But it has been clear from some time that Sinead, far from getting more settled and together in her later years, may well be getting worse.
While the headlines keep coming, she no doubt will continue to make them, and like all performers she's best before a live audience.
But her latest problems can be viewed as another cloud in a darkening landscape.
Sinead O'Connor is not well. That much is clearly evident. She needs medical, not media attention.
Hopefully those closest to her can convince her to go seek it. Otherwise, this could all turn out badly for her.

Press and media in Ireland showed their true colours during the ill-fated presidential election. Highly subjective bordering on the preijudicial. So bad that some of us have elected to avoid indecent exposure to it from here on in. But Sinead, lessen the attention seeking behaviour.
citizen69 | Jan 02, 2012, 12:36 PM EST
Published jan 1st in Niall O'Dowd's IrishCentral.com... ''Sinead O’Connor scored crack on her wedding night''. Well done Niall in keeping up your usual standards.
mactala | Jan 02, 2012, 08:19 AM EST
And you received your psychiatry creditials, where?

May the peace of God, which passes all understanding, be her comfort during this hard time in her life. God bless you, honey. Be strong. Ignore the cat-calls from the world. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you. Jeannie

Sinead IS more mentally sound than most of the media put together! She was wrongly diagnosed and put on medication that probably was totally wrong and bad for her..She talks enormous amounts of sense if you would bother to listen her, She is very funny and does not suffer fools gladly
citizen69 | Dec 30, 2011, 06:05 PM EST
Well i see today Niall (Dec 30th) that your website is still publishing headlines about Sinead O'Connor two days after you write that it is time for the media to leave her alone. Why am i not surprised by this website's constant hypocrisy?
kateomprint | Dec 30, 2011, 04:40 PM EST
Oh no not her again.
faberm1 | Dec 29, 2011, 08:05 PM EST
We will always love Sinead because she is one of God's special creations and she is Sinn Féin (Our own). She needs a month here on our farm in Central Texas without cell phones, demands etc. We would love to pray with her and love her. She needs some time to walk on the earth and just breath in the air and realize she's just alright like she is and that God loves her and has a perfect plan for her life. We love her music and love her just how we see her. Beidh sí failte romhat cén uair is mian léi a theacht go Texas.
SeamusMor | Dec 29, 2011, 11:10 AM EST
Practice what you preach! No more Sinead O'Connor coverage!
citizen69 | Dec 29, 2011, 09:46 AM EST
I guess then it is your responsibility Niall to ensure that no-more Sinead stories appear on this website as there has been quite a lot of headlines about her here recently. Let's see what happens.
Avalynn | Dec 29, 2011, 04:05 AM EST
Good, responsible, article. And good luck to Sinead and to family and closest ones who have to stick fast with her through this. In particular, the fathers of her children have to ensure that the children are safe and cared for while she walks this hard road. If someone had ensured her safety and protection as a child, this would most likely not be happening at all.
sirpeter | Dec 28, 2011, 09:43 PM EST
I thought the same for years. She is an attention junkie and always was.Yeah the media should leave her alone. She is unwell. So I gather this is the last article on Sinead on IC?I hope so.Any press at this stage is not good for her.
seanomelbourne | Dec 28, 2011, 08:46 PM EST
Leave Sinead in peace some bloggers have little to talk about.
oisinc123 | Dec 28, 2011, 06:38 PM EST
are you a journalist or a gp? you seem to be engaging in gossip which is potentially more harmful than anything sinead o'connor is doing. oisin.
bonniellen | Dec 28, 2011, 05:32 PM EST
I do hope she does get help ..It is sad to let her go on with her life with thoughts of suicide..I hope her family or friends will please help her. I never did care for her songs against the church and the pope but maybe even then she was crying out for help. she is much to young to give up..
proudirishlass | Dec 28, 2011, 05:01 PM EST
I am shocked at the attitude of so many on this site about mental illness. The stigma exists in 2011????. Just by the grace of GOD goes I. Mental illness is a chemical imbalance in the brain and there is little she can do about it except medicate and hope for the best. She should not be condemned or criticized for her illness. And shame on anyone for calling her hurtful names because of it. She frequently speaks the truth about the church and society but many can not accept it. The excuse is that she must be mentally ill to talk like that.Guess what, mentally ill people do have a right to an opinion and a right to express it. If she had diabetes, heart disease or cancer she would still have those opinions. Would you have the same opinion of her? She has a GOD given gift of a beautiful voice and musical talent and many can not recognize that either because of their prejudices towards her.She is bringing joy to the world with her voice and the least we can do is be supportive and understanding of her in this difficult time.Remember that just by the grace of GOD goes you and I.
mayoman | Dec 28, 2011, 04:47 PM EST
You're right Niall. Sinead is not mentally well, and she is clearly in need of both compassion and medical attention. I wish her well.
pilib04 | Dec 28, 2011, 03:54 PM EST
Sinead sure hit the nail on the head with the picture tearing incident. At the time there was all of us singing: "We didn't know it all, we didn't see a thing. You can't hold us to blame, what could we do? It was a terrible shame, But we can't bear the blame, Oh no, not us, we didn't know." Sinead is not the blame, but those who failed to support her are!
RedBranch | Dec 28, 2011, 03:02 PM EST
Right on Firedog. She could be a test case for how Ireland treats its mentally ill. There was /is a hospital in Dundrum with 22 foot high walls, but i prefer St. Pats down by Heuston Station. light, bright and staffed by excellent professionals. Admit one O'Connor today.
dingle999 | Dec 28, 2011, 02:01 PM EST
WTF Apologize to Frank Sinatra's family ? Exactly what for? Taping the Pope's picture back ? Are you been serious? (Have you been in Ireland the last decade in relation to the child sex abuse cases ?)
irishpjk | Dec 28, 2011, 01:57 PM EST
She can sing but after that what is she. She brought on media, and both she and the media loved it now they look for her next screw up. Maybe she should try taping the Popes picture back together then apologize to the worlds Catholics, Frank Sinatra’s family and friends. Ask and pray for forgiveness.
BillyFitz | Dec 28, 2011, 01:43 PM EST
I love Sinead's voice and music. I think she is a lot smarter then people give her credit for.
madpadd | Dec 28, 2011, 01:11 PM EST
Jim Carey?
NYCFiredog | Dec 28, 2011, 01:03 PM EST
She is obviously on a long Manic tear. Just like Charlie Sheen. She seems to be the extreme variety of Bi Polar. Think Charlie and Brittiany Spears. If you're going to have a mental illness, thjs is the one to have. It's easily managed with Meds like Lithuium. The problem is, Manic's pleasure centers are firing like mad and it's an extreme high they sometimes don't want to give up. And once you're into a Manic episode your judgement is GONE. And addictions ARE common as a way to self medicate. Thank God she's just after Reefer, unlike Charlie Sheen. And sexual acting out is also common as their libidos go wild. It's a pretty common illness among creative types. Think Patty Duke Astin, Jim Carrey, Brittainy Spears, Jonathan Winters. The list is endless. I hope she accepts help.
madpadd | Dec 28, 2011, 01:00 PM EST
Well said Seamus. Such is the burden of fame. There are those who "handle" it a little better and put it to better use.
SeamusMartin | Dec 28, 2011, 12:42 PM EST
We all have crosses to bear, but some have extra heavy crosses covered with splinters and thorns. She needs help, but in whom would she trust? All we can do is pray for her to find some inner strength to deal with her demons, enjoy her gift of song and ignore her rants and ravings.
wyalusingjohn | Dec 28, 2011, 12:41 PM EST
Dingle999 if her behavior is not weird what is it? As long as you asked priests who molest children are not weird, they are criminal pedophiles who belong in jail. Weird behavior can be harmless child molesting is not. Please note that on this same page is another long story about her. So much for leaving her alone.
madpadd | Dec 28, 2011, 12:39 PM EST
Wikipedia. Well it is often written with a bit of a slant. Have you ever heard anyone say, "well...Wikipedia says". Compassion given where due. In Sineads case, I find it difficult to say...due. If someone said, "she can't sing anymore", I would feel very sorry for her.
proudirishlass | Dec 28, 2011, 12:29 PM EST
I respectfully ask everyone here to research Sinesd on WICKIPEDIA and maybe you will have a better understanding of this lady. I love and respect her and admire her honesty. I wish her all the best and ask everyone to have a little mercy. Walk a mile in her shoes and then give an opinion. As i said before on the topic of parenting how we behave as adults towards children determines that child's outcome. That is a heavy responsibility, taken lightly by so many.
christilcaugh | Dec 28, 2011, 12:27 PM EST
Those who act out in public DO deserver compassion and sympathy. Too often they are ridiculed and that does more to harm them. She did not ask to be this way, nor is she simply asking for attention.
McNamara31 | Dec 28, 2011, 12:17 PM EST
donal1951.. God Bless for sharing your story. Someday the medical profession will find the origins and complete cures for mental illness and addiction and future generations will be spared the lifelong heartbreak these issues bring.
dingle999 | Dec 28, 2011, 12:10 PM EST
madpadd on Dec 28, 2011, 11:50 AM EST Are you saying she deserves compassion? If we showed her compassion you'd be right....Survival of the thickest. So madpadd are you saying you are thick ? (you do know it is Irish slang for stupid) OleSarge - She is medically ill.. you do understand that ? Where did you get the 'addict' idea from ? "Little talent and a big mouth have propelled her forward." What a load of waffle. Next minute you will be saying you are fan of Dickie Rocke and Big Tom. Of course if you were living in Ireland you would know Sinead has an amazing voice etc. BTW I hear Sarah Palin has a great voice and since she is no longer running for President she is aiming to become the next Dolly Parton of Alaska
madpadd | Dec 28, 2011, 11:58 AM EST
OK...Sinead is "not well". Enough said.
JohnJoe4444 | Dec 28, 2011, 11:54 AM EST
Well stop reporting it then! You are "The Media" too and have responsibilities.
Mike7571 | Dec 28, 2011, 11:52 AM EST
Thank you Niall, You are so right about this. She isn't the only one but you are correct, it's like we are making fun of the sick people in our society and somehow it's supposed to be OK because they are famous.
madpadd | Dec 28, 2011, 11:50 AM EST
Are you saying she deserves compassion? If we showed her compassion you'd be right....Survival of the thickest.
OleSarge | Dec 28, 2011, 11:50 AM EST
Controversy is her stock and trade. Without it she would never have achieved her celebrity status. Little talent and a big mouth have propelled her forward. She is in trouble and needs help is self evident. But like any addict she needs to hit rock bottom before she will accept that help. The fawning articles written on her behalf only ensure that she will continue on self destruction. If the media ignores her, maybe that is the rock bottom and she can seek the help she so desperately needs.
IronMountainMovies | Dec 28, 2011, 11:44 AM EST
Isn't the compassion coming from these comments just so re-assuring? It seems the world is still full of judgemental arseholes. Turns Darwinism on its head. Survival of the thickest.
madpadd | Dec 28, 2011, 11:20 AM EST
It never ceases to amaze me, what a broken down crock of a head case will do for attention. Maybe she was just after a couple o' weeks in the sack. I can't imagine waking up next to that in the morning.
bunkerisland | Dec 28, 2011, 11:12 AM EST
Let the media lay off of Sinead begin with Irish Central since you appear to be the biggest offender of her privacy.
dingle999 | Dec 28, 2011, 11:08 AM EST
wyalusingjohn - Nice to call Sinead a 'weirdo' . BTW are priests who have certain odd desires/fixations 'weirdos' as well ? Unlike these 'weird' priests Sinead has not harmed any fellow human beings
wyalusingjohn | Dec 28, 2011, 11:02 AM EST
Your a little late to the table on this. I think most of us have been begging to hear nothing else about this weirdo for the rest of our lives for quite awhile. You can throw the Kardashians in that bag too.
donal1951 | Dec 28, 2011, 10:55 AM EST
Just because O'Connor courts the media doesn't mean they have to give in. My mother was bipolar and got much worse with age. Thank God she was not a celebrity or she would have been another Sinead. At least she was able, as she refused help from anyone, fall apart privately and maintain some of her dignity after death.
butlerreport | Dec 28, 2011, 10:39 AM EST
O'Connor courts the media, not the other way around. She is a woman without any concept of boundaries - personal or professional - the consequence of which has been the destruction of what could have been a remarkable career. She is a narcissist given her constant need for attention - in addition to whatever else is wrong with her.
Springfield9 | Dec 28, 2011, 10:35 AM EST
Sinead is simply Sinead, once upon a time you could be a looney and left at peace. If she is "Bi-Polar" then tell her about the meds and life as a mummy. The media is causing this stir - just let her be.
dingle999 | Dec 28, 2011, 10:26 AM EST
Jeez some of the comments posted here. Some of the posters must be Sarah Palin fans...In relation to the Catholic Church in Ireland she was totally right about tearing up the picture of the Pope in relation to the child sex abuse scandal and in relation to bogsidebunny please go back to school I think you need some lessons in writing simple English
Jamcelt | Dec 28, 2011, 10:19 AM EST
We have all known that she is a basket-case for over 20 years. She needs to be locked away for a while, and be ignored by the media.
etighe1130 | Dec 28, 2011, 10:18 AM EST
Her problems began the day she tore up the picture of John Paul II.
Gearoid | Dec 28, 2011, 10:08 AM EST
She needs a good kick up the arse! Spoilt self centred, self obsessed brat who does not care about any one except herself.
sunspotter5 | Dec 28, 2011, 09:51 AM EST
Perhaps irish Central can take the lead and not put her or her name as their second story...
LoyalCitizen | Dec 28, 2011, 09:14 AM EST
She is no worse than the politicians of Ireland and there obscene financial schemes.
beachcomber | Dec 28, 2011, 09:11 AM EST
"Why do I think that someday soon we will be reading about the further mental problems of Sinead O'Connor?"...should have been asked as "why do i think that someday soon we will be reading about the tragic end of Sinead?"...because it will probably be accurate...does this woman have no one near her who cares enough to stand up to her and help her? yeah, celebrity folly is entertaining and all, but just like the rest of the players in the meltdown club, it turns into uncomfortable sadness. but the media laying off? not in this lifetime. which makes you wonder, who is more sick?
