The announcement of the Obama trip to Ireland is the best news possible for Ireland.
I'm delighted to say that Irishcentral were the first to predict this story several months ago, as we received indications that it was under active consideration
At a time when the focus on Ireland has been so negative the Obama announcement sends a jolt of positive energy through the current negative vibes about Ireland.
His visit will once again focus on the massive connections between Ireland and the US and will prove a tourism and hopefully, investment bonanza.
It will be an unbelievable month of May for Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny who will also greet the Queen of England on e r visit there.
There is no question that he will much prefer the Obama visit which will allow him international attention and focus of a positive nature which Ireland desperately needs.
The Queen's visit will raise many hackles in Ireland and will be a tense visit throughout I predict.
For Obama it isa win-win too going to Ireland ,giving him bragging rights with the 40 million Irish Americans who will love to see their president on their ancestral soil.
All in all a great day for the Irish!

ajreaper...your the one who respects obama. I understand leadership better than most but not of my own choosing. Obama leads by his mouth and several years of speech lessons. Along with several years of brainwashing the youth of America. This is no big deal or accomplishement. I will give credit when credit is due. obama hopes to become Hitler or Mao in that he drags the country down so far they will listen to anyone. Then the violence kicks in and fear rules the people. You go along or die. No special talent to speak of involved. Right time right place has more to do with it than the man. You are the one who misunderstands leadership and subject to be sucked in by a slick willie used car salesman. The reality disconnect is in thinking a power hungry, lying scumbag is a leader. A leader leads by deeds. You will understand if ever in combat.

Maloney you fail to understand leadership- it can be positive or negative but it takes a special talent to inspire unwavering support from others in any endeavor. Do I look at what Hitler did and believe it was good? Of course not. Can we learn something from how he did it? You bet. To compare Obama to Hitler, Mao or Bin Laden though clearly shows you are completely disconnnected from reality.

ajreaper..so your respect Hitler, Mao, Bin Laden etc? Is that what your saying? You bring up obamacare. Obama may deserve some respect for caring about the American people, if that was what he was doing. Now his own people have admitted there is no savings to be had, only more debt. Hidden in obamacare are several things that have nothing to do with healthcare. The man lied about his healthcare package and has shown his true colors of being an enemy of the constitution and the American way of life. I give him no respect or anyone who supports him.

Maloney jeez are you a completely ignorant of current events? I'd say he supports universal health care considering the great lengths he went to drive that home. The simple truth is if he believed in nothing and did nothing folks like you'd be pretty quiet- otherwise what would be your gripe? And you are sadly mistaken if you think he's my hero I am just not going to bad mouth the president, any president though I will and do have problems with their agendas at times. You can disagree with a man's beliefs and respect the man's commitment to them.

KEEP YER HAIR ON! He is popping into ireland on his way to his State Visit To Great Britain and the G8 Summit. As The Queen will have been a recent visitor herself they wil be able to compare notes and pet dog stories. She might question why he keeps a Portuguese water Dog instead of the superiour Irish Water Dog which has a hairless tail which it uses as a weapon, like a whip! ~ ~ ~ No doubt An Taoiseach ( English trans: The Leader/Headman/Chief. coll: 'Prime Minister'.) Kenny did very well in the US - in spite of having to remind them of the correct spelling (nothing new there eh?)of his name. ~ As he had just suffered the first of many bloody noses he and Ireland will get from Europe over the Bailout loan repayment issue, he recovered well to bask in the brief green sunlight of the Oval office ~ Both the Visits will raise the Irish World profile in a positive way and MacAleese and Kenny can display real Statesmanship. ~ AS to which visitor will bring most benefit to Ireland? That's arguable; but to get you started: One is already very well liked and popular throught the World and the other wishes they were! Who's Who? - Go Figure! I just hope they are both shown the respect they deserve!

Ya the U.S. president can just jump into a near by phone booth and fly to fix the worlds problems all by his lonesome. He cannot golf becuase he should be busy fixing Japan? What exactly do some of you think the U.S. president can do? He has no magic wand- do you think if you go and buy a new Ford the CEO is the guy there to make the sale? Theres plenty going on the general public need not know and truth be told if the president was saying I did this and I did that you'd be accusing him of using these things for political gain- its not real hard to figure you whiners and nay sayers out.

Hogan what type of person are you to call the President ‘a piece of garbage’ and why? Maybe if you were referring to a dictator such as Pol Pot, Amin, or Milosevic but certainly not someone who a majority of American Citizens elected in a democratic poll. Many of us happen to think he is doing an admirable job salvaging the Country from the detritus which he inherited. Perhaps you could enlighten us all with the wonderful advice that you would impart to Mr. Obama. We’d all love to hear!
