News of a Barack Obama state visit to Britain in May has sparked new speculation that the president may drop in on the Emerald Isle either before or after his visit there.
Presidents Kennedy, Clinton and Reagan all took in Ireland as well as Britain on visits during their presidency.
The White House announced that Michelle Obama would accompany her husband.
Any announcement on an Irish leg of the trip will doubtless be held off until the St.Patrick's season when Obama hosts an annual Irish gathering at the White House
Vice President Biden recently told a Washington insider that he had told President Obama that he wanted to visit Ireland, but Obama told him 'I'll get there first."
Obama's Irish roots have been traced to Moneygall, County Offaly on the Tipperary border.
The American Ambassador Dan Rooney has consistently stated that he believed a trip to Ireland by the president was inevitable.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers owner has a close relationship with the president, after supporting him early on in the key state of Pennsylvania

Keep an eye out for the truth of obama's tricks. $500 billion double counted in obamacare and he said it would save money. LIE. Over $105 billion spending hidden in the obamacare bill itself. More smoke, mirrors & LIES. Obama's girl Hilary just made the statement that the American news media and press should be like Russia and China. He should be impeached, not out globe trekking, pissing tax payers money away as fast as he can. Hold your hands out Ireland, he may piss some more of what is not his away.

Agreed Towngate.
justhimself | Mar 07, 2011, 03:20 PM EST
His Irish ancestry.is what gave him his American roots. His black side does not have any connection to US slave history, he is not a real representive of the american slave heritage. Sad but true.

DIADHIA: Why wouldn't they share a meal - from your description; they are perfectly matched as joint purveyors of tyrannical oppression and bloodshed ~ but with one important difference. The Queen is purely a figurehead ~ the other one is an Executive President and therefore personally responsible for the climbing Death Toll!
peterson | Mar 01, 2011, 07:47 PM EST
He really should visit his very poor relatives in Kenya !!
Diadhia | Feb 23, 2011, 12:56 PM EST
The US pres not only needs to stay home, he shouldn't be sharing a meal with a figurehead that represents tyrannical oppression and bloodshed.

MALONEY...I am not a Liberal, and you have just proved my point.

I feel more apologies on the horizon.

I see much of the love for Obama is because he's black. He has never done anything worthwhile except become president. He's backtracked from most everything he promised. This favor is a type of racial prejudice. Also, I thank the writer in a prior comment that he did not argue with my implication of too many trips to Europe but only that Bush took more vacation time (usu. at Camp David) which I fully accept. Personally, I think we've elected Moe previously , Larry now and I fear Curley may be next.

Nice to see the Obamas have made a great start to becoming Irish in the photo above! ~ ~ ~ I think the red hair and freckles would have been better on him, though. ~ ~ ~ Having to accept his Irish Moneygall ancestor, being a wig-maker to the English Court, will jarr with his known 'dislike' of all things British. (His ol' Mau-Mau Dada got a hiding for rebelling against them in Africa once). Barry O'Mombasa has never forgotten it.Such a sore loser. ~ ~ ~ As for being a "Great" President? Well, quite apart from the now eternal question of his nativity, that Crown will never be placed on his head because of his post election u-turn on Guantanimo, Afghanistan and Iraq. In Egypt, his uncertainty when his Puppet Pal Mubarak was having his strings nibbled at, was truly pathetic as he sat staring like a rabbit frozen in the headlights waited for orders from HIS real Masters telling him what to do! No Sir! No matter what he does between now and losing office, this weak little puppet squandered his country's lifetime opportunity, and will never be 'Great'. .............When he is in London ,I hope somebody takes him to the American Memorial inside St Paul's Cathedral and leaves him alone to read it. ~ Then he might understand what it means to be British and American and return home in shame and humiliation and replace the Bust of a truly Great Leader ~ Sir Winston Churchill, in pride of place in the Oval Office where it was placed for a very good reason! How dare this peevish little nobody ever lay a hand on it!
pilib04 | Feb 20, 2011, 08:45 AM EST
President Obama has not had half the vacation time that his predecessor Bush had. I suppose if you repeat a lie over and over, eventually someone will believe it.
pilib04 | Feb 20, 2011, 08:43 AM EST
President Obama is more welcome in Ireland than many of the posters here. Particularly in the north. Hopefully the President will visit his ancestral Contae Uibh Fhaili. And sure there are plenty of courses for the President to play golf. President Clinton and President Obama are greatly loved and appreciated in Ireland if not in the Voice. I remember when the Republicans tried to impeach President Clinton and the crowd of 600,000 who greeted the President in Baile Atha Cliath. There is a hoop at almost every school yard in Ireland so he will have no problem getting in a photo op. For the best outdoor hoops, Baile Atha Cliath is best, or Baile an Fheirtearaigh.
maloney | Feb 19, 2011, 09:23 PM EST
If obama committed mass murder the liberals would say the only reason you want him punished for his crimes was because he is black. The hatred you see here for obama is because he is a socialist, muslim loving, freedom hating maggot.
jacersagain | Feb 19, 2011, 08:54 PM EST
If Mr. Barak Obama lands his feet on Irish soil, he might say “People of Ireland - I know your problem. I know what you're going through. I know my own country’s problems caused it. But we can overcome all those problems. YES WE CAN!... and to prove it here’s my pledge... here's $100bn to help you out.” Does Obama have One Hundred Billion dollars? Do his taxpayers?
mamaginnty | Feb 19, 2011, 03:21 PM EST
JEANNE THERESE, the worst president in America was Goerge Bush, nothing but a war monger and oily friend of Bin Laden's family. The hatred I see here for Obama is mainly because he is black.
Taho1221 | Feb 19, 2011, 02:30 PM EST
Niall, I would like to hear your opinion. Ireland is bankrupt and now all but owned by Europe and IMF. This is the major issue for the election and for the people. Why does Enda Kenny and your brother, Fergus O'Dowd still harp on Gerry Adams' past and try to smear him and make it a campaign issue?
LinLinisme | Feb 19, 2011, 11:57 AM EST
I don't believe the Queen wants him...he has no class. Again he can go to hell as long as he doesn't come back

Maybe the tourists are not emigrating from Ireland
borefield | Feb 18, 2011, 11:33 PM EST
Ireland has enough troubles. He will just be a hyprocite if he goes as he really has no interest in the Irish or their culture, to be fair, it's the Irish that keep pushing his Irish roots thing. Is his ego really that big that he feels the Queens visit might upstage him.

he hates the brits so youse should get along with him.

Another trip to Europe??? We can balance the budget just by cutting out his trips. Air Force One, its crew, dozens of secret service agents. I think he's up to five or six trips now. He'll cram in a dozen more if it looks like he'll lose the next election. Anyway, I hope the Irish ignore whatever he has to say (perhaps something astute like reunite with Britain?). His advice to bail out the banks hasn't worked out too well.
MotherIrish | Feb 18, 2011, 04:29 PM EST
OH CRAP! and we were coming to visit Ireland in May... just what we need Obama and all his hangers on coming when we are there. We are coming to leave him and his drama behind. buffaloirishman -- you would not know great if it stared you in the face and said - Hey I am great. Obama is only great in his own mirror
Towngate | Feb 18, 2011, 04:20 PM EST
NO TALK OF IRELAND: He is coming to Europe on an Official State Visit to Great Britain on the kind Invitation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. He will stay at Buckingham Palace and be Guest of Honour at a State Banquet. It is hoped there will be no mention of the breach of Protocol during his last visit when the Queen was touched! This time the notion that he can 'kill two birds with the one stone' and sneak over Shamrockside while he's here, could be considered inappropriate behaviour and as rudeness to his host, too. ~ ~ ~ Anyway, Michelle seems pleased to tag along as the Presidential Impedementa, judging by the photo! ~ or is it a cartoon?
buffaloirishman | Feb 18, 2011, 04:19 PM EST
As an Irish American I am honored that our great President will visit the homeland of our ancestors (his and mine). President Obama is a great leader who takes on the important and difficult issues facing our country today. He is very much like the Irish political leaders who helped us and so many other people get a fair chance/an opportunity when the greedy rich tried to hold us down. President Obama and Ireland are a perfect match.
Sparklet | Feb 18, 2011, 03:25 PM EST
He'll be more welcome in Ireland than that dangerous halfwit George Dubya.

He and his bunch of friends will spend millions in Ireland -- unfortunately, with money borrowed from China. He and his wife are big spenders of other people's mpney !!

Obama is not a Muslim, he is a Christian. I can't believe people are still questioning his birth and religion. My husband was born on the Naval base in Guantanamo Bay. Does that make him a Cuban?
JeanneTherese | Feb 18, 2011, 10:31 AM EST
TERRIBLE! YOU SHOULD NOT LET HIM VISIT IRELAND. HE HAS HAD SO MANY VACATIONS USING TAXPAYER MONIES THAN ANY OTHER PRESIDENT IN YEARS. NOT RIGHT SINCE WE ARE IN FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES HERE IN USA. USING HIS TERM OF OFFICE FOR HIS VACATIONS FREE ON US...HE IS NOT A GOOD LEADER NOR SOMEONE TO BE TRUSTED. IF HE DOES COME, ASK TO SEE A LEGITIMATE BIRTH CERTIFICATE FROM HIM...SEE IF HE COMPLIES. HE WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE WORSE PRESIDENT EVER IN USA. IF POSSIBLE, REFUSE HIS ENTRY INTO BEAUTIFUL IRELAND OR AT LEAST MINIMIZE HIS VISIT.....WITH ABSOLUTELY NO FANFARE. HE IS A NARCISIST!! IT WILL ONLY FUEL HIS EGO. SORRY! BUT I AM SPEAKING THE TRUTH!
jamieLM | Feb 18, 2011, 09:47 AM EST
Obama will be a pleasant guest after "hosting" the Rev. Big-Mouth Jackson. Just be thankful that Iran's little weasel-guy Achmadinijad (sp) isn't planning a visit.

The SOTUS is rigged. The parties sold out. And in Madison, WI. the pushback across America has begun by teachers, firefighters, who have drawn a line.

Could you treat obama extra nice? He may get to like the place and move in. He should warm up to the politicians rapidly as he likes to piss away his people's money too.
