Gerry Adams makes right decision to speak at Boston all-male dinner

Bookmark and Share

Gerry Adams will go where Massachusetts Gov. Patrick Deval refused to tread tonight when he appears at the Clover Club in Boston to address the 650 members.

Deval snubbed the all-male club when he refused to turn up at the last moment for their dinner in December. It looks like Adams is a much-bigger draw than Deval however, according to club members who say Deval had attracted only 500 or so members.

Adams was invited by Joe Leary, head of the Irish American Partnership, an organization that has done sterling work for peace in Northern Ireland. Rita O'Hare, head of Sinn Fein's outreach to America, said that Leary's work on behalf of peace in Northern Ireland made accepting the invitation a no-brainer.

That is as it should be.

I have known Joe Leary for twenty years, when the going was tough in Northern Ireland. Before the peace process became everyone's bandwagon, Leary was working hard to bring about peace there.

While in Boston Adams will also march in the Saint Patrick's Day parade in South Boston, and attend a political breakfast there on Sunday morning.

What may not co-operate will be the weather. Heavy rainstorms are forecast all day Saturday and Sunday in Boston, which may put a damper on the parade.

Realist: Big difference, the Romans left. No pitying routine, realist, just some realism. I think the Irish and their descendants deserve at least what Alaskan natives get from the govt. Yes reparations are in order in a grand way for the Irish...So until justice has been served there will really be no peace....and yes take down the british flags and get the british out of Ireland.
Monsoonman, lol....why are the British not seeking reparations from the Italian government for the Romans invasion of Britain in AD 43? Well mostly because the British do not have an inherently insecure mindset causing them to perpetually harp on about things that have been done to them in the past. I suggest you wake up, grow up, and shake that chip off your shoulder.
Monsoonman, yawn, when you're quite done with the habitual and self-pitying victim routine, why not answer my questions? Who are the "british" who need to be "out of Ireland forever"? What happens if politics does not work after "a while"? Back to 'murder thy neighbour'? Come along now old son, let's have some grown-up answers. Over to you.
I say bravo. There is only one road for a sustainable peace and that is dialogue.
Just because the murder/genocide/de/repopulation happened in the past doesn't mean it is OK. Native American populations are finally getting some justice by finding oil reserves, minerals & building casinos on their once "worthless" reservation lands. There should be the same type of repayment to Ireland from england in the form of reparations and england should remove itself entirely from Ireland.
Hi. Does Adams have any principles left at all.
Monsoonman, when you write, "lets give politics a chance for awhile and get the british out of Ireland forever", to whom are you referring? Is it perhaps the British/Unionist majority that have been there since 1603? Also, if politics does not do the trick in your eyes, what then? Back to murdering your Unionist neighbours into a 'united Ireland' that they do not want? I hope you do not mean this as it certainly sounds like you do. Shame.
When you see what the british did to Ireland and to other countries, it is hard to accept their presence under any guise in our mother country. OK lets give politics a chance for awhile and get the british out of Ireland forever. Respect Sinn Feins efforts. Glad to see the welcome in America!
